This event was a great learning tool for me. I rarely paddle with others but, as mentioned by Frank, a quick review of everyone's equipment and a skill check should always be done.

I noticed that the group separated up even before I launched. Group cohesion needs to be adhered to, regardless of conditions.

As for critiquing myself I identified a number of issues. I need to pick up a marine radio. Probably won't do that until spring. I also learned that I need much improvement on assisted rescues. I'm too slow. I also identified technical deficiencies. Likewise, due to the group being spread out, I was not available to help anyone else. I plan to work out the kinks in the above and get from a grade of D- to maybe a B or better.

But... once again I learned how much I love my drysuit. I got upside down twice and came up nice and warm each time.

    Nice seeing everyone!

And Frank, it's nearly time for you to put some shoes on... winter's coming:)

Shoes are over-rated but do come in handy for hazardous surfaces, extreme heat and cold and paranoid establishments.

Wow!!! What a meetup. This is the only group of people I know that can start a "Forest Fire" in the middle of Lake Erie. A group coordination meeting will be posted by the end of today.

Great learning experience as only Lake Erie can provide!

Sun will be rising in partial hybrid eclipse Sunday if you're up bright and early and conditions are good- google it and check it out. Ohio is about as far west as it will be visible.

Calling all "weirdos" to kayak this Sunday morning to the Water Crib if weather is good, otherwise we will paddle the full length of the break wall!

    Experienced "weirdos"/Kayakers only!

    LOL!

Not sure if they duck hunt but one of those guys would absolutely love to bag a skunk ape!!! Bragging rights forever!

I was looking at the weather and wave forecast outlook for the next week. Wave forecast through Saturday is upwards of 6', weather forecast clear and 44 degrees but possibly windy. If we get 20 MPH winds with a WNW wind we could be looking at 8' waves by Sunday. I thought it might be prudent to ask if we want a backup location. I'm planing on paddling Sunday either way. I would suggest LaDue but I'm not sure if they Duck Hunt there. Another Possibility would be Portage Lakes (Turkeyfoot), lots of water for a long paddle there.

What's it say about us as a group when the hot topic of conversastion is Gerry's smelly shoes??? Just asking. LOL

    October 22, 2013

    • Chris F.

      Still funny!

      October 22, 2013

    • Ryan P.

So I guess the ultimate question is who has the smelliest feet, Gerry or Bigfoot? And if Bigfoot wins the first question, then the 2nd quetion is if Gerry paddles more will he surpass Bigfoot? Do I understand everybody correctly?

      October 22, 2013

  • frank f.

To avoid smelly feet, I avoid wearing shoes and wash my feet frequently.

    October 22, 2013

Frank and I both said 9:00 in our comments and you change it to 10:00. If anyone ever wondered why we call you the Disorganizer!!! LOL... I have your shoes by the way. I believe Chris may have left them there as payback for my earlier story.

    1 · October 21, 2013

    • Chris F.

I could leave them in your jeep, Ryan! I would never leave them in Amanda's car! LOL@imagined smell!

Not my shoes, and not payback!

Glad I left my topsiders and not my paddling booties. They would walk home by themselves. Broke down and gave them a first bath yesterday. Had too. I got a citation from the EPA for exceeding air pollutant limits.

No longer sunrise...10:00 AM. Some members prefer the very eary morning due to family schedule. Water is typically calmer earlier.

See you ther Frank and Ryan. Frank, You can do a double or triple loop if you want to keep going. If anyone wants to go the longer distance with Frank, let us know...

    October 21, 2013

  • frank f.

Why so early? Honestly, I find it hard to get on the water before 9:00 AM when Kayak Kamping. Also, once on the water, I like to paddle around 4 to 8 hours for a destination 10 to 20 miles away. So, anybody up for 10 miles out and 10 miles back depending on the wind, waves, temperature and precipitation?

    October 21, 2013

  • Ryan P.

7:00 AM ??? Can we adjust the time to maybe 9:00.
