Hello Swimmers!
I wanted to provide an update to the group regarding scheduled swims and group membership. I know many of you have been interested in getting back in the water with the group. We will be beginning group open water swims in Corona Del Mar again this month. For the last couple of years, this group has been able to pretty much swim year round. But given the weather conditions this past winter and the shark activity this spring, I made the decision to hold off on scheduling group swims until the weather had improved and the lifeguards were back on the beach. Since both of those conditions have now taken place, the group swims will be returning for the summer. I hope you will be able to join us for our swims this summer. Keep checking the Meetup page for scheduled swims and information.
In regards to group membership, a membership fee has not been charged for this group in the past. However, Meetup has significantly increased the fees I pay as the group organizer over the last couple of years. While I enjoy managing this group, I cannot continue to bear the costs of the group alone. In addition, my experience over the last couple of years has been that people will RSVP ‘yes’ to a swim but not show up. This causes a delay with getting the swimmers who have shown up in the water as we wait for those who have RSVP’d but do not come. Therefore, I want to create some ‘skin in the game’ for the members of this group. Beginning next month, I will be implementing a yearly membership fee in order to be part of this group. The fee will be no higher than $5 per year and you will receive notification from Meetup when the fees are added. Once the fee is implemented, Meetup will give you 30 days to decide whether you want to pay the fee and remain with the group or terminate your membership in the group. I hope you understand the need for implementing this fee. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding membership in this group.
Happy Swimming!!!
Christine
