In a surreal fairy tale reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, this 1970 Czech film follows young Valerie as she enters the perplexing and sometimes dangerous world of sexual awakening. When a young man steals a pair of earrings that had belonged to Valerie's mother, it sets off a chain of events where priests, vampires, and other strange beings attempt to exploit Valerie for their own selfish and sometimes mysterious purposes.
Beautifully shot and in equal parts sensual and horrifying, this film truly deserves to be seen on the big screen such as we will have at Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse.
