The Western Pennsylvania Orienteering Club will host a meet at the Heritage Reservation of the Boy Scouts of America.
The meet starts at 10:45 AM and ends at 3:30 PM.
Anyone can show up and register and start on a orienteering course between 10:45 AM and 2:00 PM. Everyone must be finished with the course by 3:30 PM. Not a mass start but a staggered start. No need to show up exactly at 10:45 AM. You can show up anytime within the 3-hr time window (11am-2pm) and register and start on your own. Cost is $6/map. Group or family doing the event together with one purchased map, cost is still just $6 for entire group/family. There will be four courses, ranging in length and difficulty from beginner to intermediate to advanced. If you want to try more than one course, you can: show up early, do one course, and then register for another (more difficult) course. Volunteers are available on site to provide basic instruction. Compasses are available for loan free of charge. This is the first time this terrain/property has been used for an orienteering meet, so take advantage of it. Open to the general public.
We will meet at the Fort Huntington shelter. Signage in the form and shape of white-red arrows will direct you. Once you enter Heritage reservation, follow the orienteering signs. The last portion of the drive will be on a gravel road for about 400 yds; for the sake of your tires and suspension, drive slowly. There are two small parking areas within 100 yds of the shelter. You may also park along the gravel road on the NW side (same side as the shelter).
Directions to the reservation are at http://www.wpoc.org/heritageflyer.htm
