4th Annual Autumn Island Writers Retreat

  • Oct 4, 2013 · 2:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Reserve Now and Join Us at the "Presidents Cottage" the First Weekend of October!

Note: If there are any profits from this event, they will go toward repairing and restoring the Presidents Cottage.

Our Annual Autumn Writers Retreat on Middle Bass Island is Friday, October 4th to Sunday, October 6th, 2013. The $205 reservation fee covers everything and includes round-trip passenger tickets for the ferry boat, transport to/from the island's ferry dock, accommodations in your private cottage room for two nights, all meals and beverages for three days, planned group writing activities and your own uninterrupted "quiet time" for writing and relaxing during this unique weekend getaway.

French explorers originally named Middle Bass Island the "Isle de Fleurs" because of its native floral landscape. Today, Middle Bass is often confused with its noisier sister South Bass Island, known to tourists as Put-in-Bay. Historic Lonz Winery, mothballed following its tragic collapse, remains one of MBI's most popular "Kodak moments" in addition to the island's glacial grooves, eagle's nest and Lake Erie sunsets. Middle Bass is referred to as "the quiet island" and its ideal for our annual autumn writing retreat. Bring your bicycle, camera, and walking shoes. Reservations are limited so, if this retreat fills up, there will be a waiting list.  Special requests and room preferences will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis. Our island writers retreats often sell out, so if you're planning to be a part of this unique getaway, do reserve online today!

I can't gush enough about the talent in this group, each of you in a different relationship with your writing and with different places you want to take it. The common thread... Sharing, helping and identifying our unique next-steps as writers. I'm inspired by you!

What time is the ferry back on Sunday?

    September 30, 2013

    • Steve F.

Hi Gina, the last ferry back to the mainland on Sunday leaves the island at 5:15 p.m. There are additional departures earlier in the day, if you need to leave earlier. You can check the entire schedule on the Miller Ferry website at MillerFerry.com - see you this Friday!

    • Steve F.

Just to add... Ferry rides are about 45 minutes. So, the last one would get you back to the mainland around 6:00 p.m.

Hi Lynda, I wish you could, too. If you change your mind, right now there's still two spots that can be reserved. I believe all of us are breaking away from that work thing... that's why we need a retreat! Seriously, if not this weekend's island retreat, perhaps you can join us for the next group retreat in the spring.

I will make certain that I get time off from work for the spring retreat. Hope everyo9ne is inspired by the fall retreat.

Steve are there 4 more spots or only 1 more spot available? I would love to go but I have to wait a few more days to figure it out. Joe

Joe, as I write this, there are four spots left that can be reserved. Hope you can join us for our annual October island retreat.

Joe, thanks for the email. Sorry to hear you've got a conflict the same weekend, but I wish you safe travel and an enjoyable, productive stay where you're going. Perhaps, we'll meet up at the Spring island group retreat or one of the individual retreats I'm planning.

What a great group! I deeply regret that I will miss this autumn retreat. I will be away at a conference this weekend. I will keep an eye out for this group's next meetup.

What would an individualized island retreat entail? I might be interested. Do you know of any in-town gatherings for writers to simply write together over an afternoon?

      September 10, 2013

    • Steve F.

Hi Rosa, I'll drop you an email via Meetup so I can better answer your questions.

  • Steve F.

Hello everyone, I just send out an email reminder for this Autumn retreat. If you didn't get it, then make sure you're subscribed via your Meetup account to receive email updates from me about our island writers retreats.
