6/22   This week's objet d'art is a painting by member Rob Gifford. More of his work can be found in the Photos section. Thanks Rob!

6/10   Bonnie, one of our original members, was creator of the waterfall oil in the objet d'art. Thanks for your use of it, Bonnie, unsanctioned as it was.

6/01   Thanks all for hanging in, finally managed to face down the art monster that this may well be turning into. We definitely have a healthy embryo!  Am still blown away by how quickly we’ve reached our 50-member cap and by the variety and depth of talent we bring to the table. I'd be worried if we didn't have Debbie Patton for our co-organizer, she brings some major talent to the table. I'm greatly stoked and humbled by the chance to work with Debbie and y'all, setting things up and helping keep our heads fed. As the Door Mouse said.

We're looking at this June 3rd meeting as both a chance to get acquainted and to set out future goals and possibilities for OHA. To that end, we'll develop a sort of straw poll for this first meeting and find out what each of you hope to see happen. Just to slip on the rose-colored glasses for a second: with our already obvious collective weight, we could see renting buses for tours, offering classes, gallery shows, maybe even landing a permanent location — a storefront, a house (is there zoning here?), a warehouse — a venue to feature work, act as a gallery and offer us all some creative space. And of course we need some evenings to just kick back and enjoy recharging. No harm dreaming, right? Anyone up for grant writing?

In the nearer term, let’s encourage each other to open up our studios, visit art venues together, lay out our art media for the group, maybe get each other involved in the art process hands on. As soon as we’ve sorted some things out at this first meeting, we’ll be able to post any outings you might want to invite people to — galleries, movies, demos, museums, music, theater, street art, electronica — whatever might open new channels. There are enough of us that we should be able to break down into smaller groups according to interests.

A big welcome to everyone! See you on June 3rd.

Tom Nordgren, Co-Organizer

Am an old hippie artist of a few stripes, gained in San Francisco, NYC, Houston and other stops along the path. I started diverging early, was saved by a love for good reads and a desire to emulate them, and have ended up as a writer fatally interested in the mix of words, visual art, and music. Am now retired from the university and for the past ten years have been freelancing. That freedom has allowed me to explore new continents and cultures, and to return to my artistic roots. The Springs is proving that it's a great place to dig in and dig life!

Debbie Patton, Co-Organizer

I grew up in a family of professional artists where the house always smelled of turpentine and oil paint. To this day, that is what smells like home for me. The visual arts are in my DNA ... a bit unconventional myself, I prefer unconventional people. I am back in college and it keeps me busy. Always outdoors, enjoying friends, reading, writing, music, and cooking are all creative outlets for me.

"Art is eternal, for it reveals the inner landscape, which is the soul . . . ."
