Lunch Hour Memory Lane

Join me to stroll through wicker-seated subway cars in the Transit Museum, which includes a whole subway platform of vintage train cars. Some are so ancient they're no longer remembered by anyone still standing. Some are so exotic that, like automotive prototypes, they never hit the rails. All are the genuine, authentic, untampered with originals. I'll share my memories of errant pieces of wicker wrecking pantyhose during the miniskirt era if you'll share your memories from The Trains of New York Past. More details including where exactly we'll meet and my admittedly cutthroat no-show policy will be shared with those who RSVP. But the skinny on location/cost is just trot down the subway stairs at the northwest corner of Boerum Place and Schermerhorn Street into a "historic 1936 IND subway station" where the admission is free on Wednesdays for anyone 62 and over, and $7 otherwise. I've posted some pics in our group's Photos tab to whet your appetite. (IMHO the old ads and Miss Subway winners are worth the trip all on their own.)

Sorry their free day for seniors isn't a day you're free. (And that they close at 4 p.m.) You would have been a great addition to the group!

I had such a great time with all that attended, the conversation every bit as sparkling and truly as memorable as the museum itself.

Truly a trip down memory lane. Very interesting and a good find by Holly with Wednesday's free for 62+ folks. Lots of group reminiscing sitting on an old, heavy wooden platform bench.

My dad worked for the transit authority and somewhere in my parents' house a series of Ms. Subways posters is gathering dust. I'll see if I can track them down.
