Smoocho Gusto is Lorree Gardener on bass and vocals and Steve Luceno on guitar and vocals. They have been active in the Olympia/Northwest music scene for 40 years. Their repertoire (mostly original) includes funky beats, swing, jazz, pop, instrumentals and Caribbean sounds, all performed with personalized twists and improvisational spirit!
Multifaceted American jazz pianist-composer Emmet Cohen is one of the most highly pivotal figures in music today, presenting jazz lectures through the YoungArts Foundation and Lincoln Center’s “Jazz for Young People” program. He has appeared in the Monterey, Newport, North Sea, Bern, and Edinburgh jazz festivals. A vibrant solo and trio performer, Cohen was a finalist in the 2011 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition and the prestigious American Pianists Association's Cole Porter Fellowship in 2011 and 2015. Cohen is also a member of Christian McBride's trio "Tip City," the "Herlin Riley Quartet," and the "Ali Jackson Trio," and serves as pianist and music director for jazz vocalist and television personality Lea DeLaria (Orange is the New Black).
This Harlem-based piano phenomenon will be in Olympia with his all-star trio featuring Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s bassist, Russell Hall, and drummer Kyle Poole, who recently toured with Cecile McLorin Salvant. The trio is known for its range, uplifting dynamism, and treating audiences to a master class in stylistic juxtapositions. Their melding of stride, blues, church, swing, bebop, free, and contemporary styles results in the innovative sound of jazz’s future.
