This is a SOCIAL/NO DROP ride (53 miles with a 38 mile option) with two planned major rest stops with food and fun for Real Drafters! This ride will feature riding through some of Raleigh's finer and gorgeous neighborhoods with absolutely no hills to climb. (Maybe - some of the prior sentence is not true) Additionally, the route will wander North of I 540 after lunch at either Rudino's Rooftop on Strickland or Leesville Tap room (depending on the temperature). Some of the northern reaches of this scenic bike route will mimic the popular "five-O" route (I did not partake of that particular ride or food [both bragged on by many]). Then as the route heads south for its final legs it passes through the nice wide roads around Northridge Country Club and ultimately ends where it begins at the parking lot just north of Sparians in North Hills! Then we will secure and lock our bikes to our autos as we finish the day at the new and classy sports bar, the Yard House. Doesn't this all sound Great! And yes - please don't share this tidbit with Chris Bagley; the ride will leave the parking lot at 10:15 but we will tell Chris we are leaving at 10! (that way he will be there on time and not Left Behind! - remember - Don't tell Chris!)
As always bring your helmet and a tail light and maybe even a head lamp. Also remember to bring plenty of fluids and a spare tire and some way to air it up, Andy. Hope we have a great crew. This will be fun.
Oh Yeah - here is a link to the route: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/fullscreen/149074205/
One more thing: If the weather does not cooperate, we will attempt to do this same ride on Sunday the 4th at the same time!
I have added a second route pretty much straight back to the starting point after lunch. This option shortens the second part of the ride by 14 miles. Unfortunately much of this route is exactly the route we used prior to lunch but it avoids the busiest traffic areas. The link to the shorter route is: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/fullscreen/149746995/. If any of you are interested in this option, you could stay longer at lunch come back to the Yard House and have a head start on "after ride" festivities! Please let me know by commenting if you desire this shorter option and I will provide cue sheets for you to help return to the beginning.
