Is Essbase the greatest OLAP database ever? Do I really have to ask this question? :)

Essbase was launched 20 years ago (I sold the very first copy) and took the world by storm after Arbor Software successfully fought off staunch objections from relational biggots in IT by bringing in their prophet Dr Edgar (Ted) Codd to give it his blessing ( There are now many analytic databases but Essbase continues to dominate the EPM OLAP space. Hopefully Essbase can evolve as in-memory engines become viable with ever cheaper hardware allowing users to have real-time modeling in large cubes.

Life long BI & EPM guy who helped define Essbase and worked with co-founders to make Essbase a success taking Essbase to Europe and then Asia-Pacific. Essbase has to be the best planning engine ever created and has stood the test of time.
