Meetup Relaunch, and Interest in Nov'2016 Meeting?

Hi All,

I've recently volunteered to take over running the Oracle Big Data 4 the Enterprise Meetup after Aiden Irwin stood down, and wanted to introduce myself to you and see if there's interest in reviving the group with a meetup before the year-end. When I saw this group was about to lapse I stepped-in to see if we could get it going again as the product area, and the amount of innovation and value its bringing to customers is so significant I thought I'd give Aiden a hand in reviving the group, but of course it all depends on you as members and what stories and experiences you want to tell, and also hear about.

So - my thoughts are to organise a meetup in London one evening in the second-half of November, focus on two or three speakers from customer projects talking about what's worked, what were the challenges and pay-offs, what do Oracle do well and what's still missing, get somebody to sponsor the bar and some food and make sure it's fun as well as informative. If you're up for the idea then either reply to this thread or drop me a line at Also please let me know if you're planning on attending the UKOUG Tech + Apps conference in Birmingham first week in December, we could organise an informal meetup there as well, or maybe make that the venue for the first meetup - let me know your thoughts and also if you would be interested in speaking or know someone with a good story to tell from a customer/end-user perspective.

I'll send another update out in around a week's time to say whether there's sufficient interest to revive the group, feed-back any thoughts from you on how to make it even better than first time around, and propose a date (or dates) for the meetup we'll try and do before the year end. Thanks again for your time, and feel free to contact me if you've got questions, ideas or want to be removed from the group and this mailing list.
