*FREE "As You Like It" - Modern Twist on Shakespeare Classic (Outdoor Picnic)...

  • Jun 2, 2013 · 4:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

To be or not to be... in fine weather for an outdoor Renaissance classics w/modern twist, ...that dear friends & fellow countrymen is the question?! Indeed, thus fair weather contingent will make this production my first ever to host an un-indoor or rather, outside picnic-style (rain automatic cancels). So pack your portable ornate Louis IV chairs, blankies, bugsprays (in case), fine wines, snacks/treats, &/or anything you like to share with group (or not, up to you) then make a beeline/ant trail to find us there.

Since not exactly sure how wide area is available to seat everyone, I shall limit grouping to small cluster until more info is obtained. Show starts 4:30pm, so pls.plan to be there by 4pm for adequate parking & locating group. If prefer to arrive sooner/later, just text (contact info provide later). Closer to the date, pls.check message thread for any changes, parking info, etc. Carpool always highly recommended. Again, thx for your understanding, patience & participation - cheers! =}

As You Like It

Presented by/at Concordia University- Nelson Amphitheatre

shakespeare 4eva! Rosalind's father, the Duke, has been banished to the Forest of Arden and she has fallen in love with a young, honorable man named Orlando. When life gets too dangerous for her, she too runs away to the forest – but dressed as a man. By chance, her love Orlando also goes to the forest where he writes lavish – but bad – poetry to his love Rosalind. Can Rosalind – as a man – teach Orlando the true meaning of love and how to express himself?

Concordia University Irvine’s professional theatre company Looseleaf Theatre Co. | Directed by Tony Vezner.

"We are so excited to once again offer the community access to high quality professional theatre in Southern California," said Tony Vezner, director. "It will be an interactive and lively performance; so invite your friends, bring a picnic basket and enjoy some free Shakespeare in a great outdoor setting."

The play is staged in the late 1960s w/Mad Men suits & hippies galore. There will be singing and a live professional wrestling match.

Note: 3 or more participants pls. or shall forfeit event on calendar. I shall fwd contact info via Meetup email at least a day or two b4 event in case (ie.running late/postpone/plans change etc.) If you do not receive, pls.message me.

Important: Rarely pick up or hear phone DURING event if you're not on time for whatever reasons. I'm not being cruel or rude & phone might have limited or no reception. In some cases, venues such as inside/outside theaters discourage cell phone activities. Every organizer understands it's quite challenging to keep tabs on everyone while an event is in progress. If you have a smart phone, you can post comments via Meetup & will try to reply as timely as possible. Thanks for understanding & hope 2-c-u all there, cheers!

Also: Pls.do not RSVP "no" - already assume you're not attending if you don't signup, thx! =)

ps.This is cross-posted w/SoCal Small Theatre & Artistry Group [not all events will be & vice versa]

Tip: If you do not want to receive reminders for this or any Meetup events from this group only (besides announcements) simply go to 'Email And Notifications' settings under your 'My Profile' , then click 'Don't send me reminders'.

After reading everyone's comments I was seriously blown away by such beautiful kind words. Thought my true was joy was seeking out these eclectic events, sharing to the world & cross fingers others will like it too. Yet in turn the world shared back to me their love for art, mirth, drama - heck, anything that tinge our lives w/so much color & joy! I'm truly grateful for even the chance Providence, timing, & inclination allows me to do this esp.w/so many wonderful ppl such as u guys! Everyone gave me so much of their heart just by showing up & having a great time. Thus triggers another favorite passage William Shakespeare declared so well to all thee beloved in my heart:

"Love to faults is always blind, always is to joy inclined. Lawless, winged, and unconfined, and breaks all chains from every mind." =D

Also more great news is alcohol is permissible but please drink responsibly. If anyone abuse this policy, premise monitors might escort offenders away & thus not good on the group. Material shall be directed to 18/21+ crowds. So pls.find a babysitter if you need. Concessions of various snacks, cookies, sodas, water etc.will be available for sale. Better yet, bring your own (sharing is caring yet certainly optional =)

Carpool is highly recommended. Parking is free, easy to find & follow the winding road uphill or see a gate guard & that person shall guide you in the right direction. From there, many signs should be posted to bring you to Amphitheatre. Any further questions, pls lemme know, thx. Really excited to 'Carpe Diem' w/y'all soon, cheers! =D

Good news everyone, ...checked w/the program coordinators this afternoon & they assured me I can allow as many guests as wish. Amphitheatre can host up to 700 ppl, but have also heard it swell into the thousand. If you guys don't mind big crowds, I've opened up guest list to waitlisters - the More the Merrier! (did Shakespeare say that btw? Just wondering ;-)

The caveat however is, since the area is relatively large, & group is now combined/expanded to accommodate 30+ guests, we might not all get the same seating if other non-Meetup attendees are sporadically holding spots too. Even within this group, not everyone will arrive the same time ideally. So perhaps I might find a balloon or flag to wave to stake out a section. Either way, everyone should have my contact info by time of event.
