Hike in Mugu State Park: La Jolla Valley and Mugu Peak

Distance: About 10 mile loop

Hiking Time: 5.5 hours (hiking starts about 10am, ends 3:30 pm)

Elevation Gain/Loss: 1950’/1950’

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging (the degree of challenge depends on how hot the weather is)

Meeting Point: Meet 7:45am at the North Orange County Park & Ride located at 2721 N. Tustin Street, Orange, CA 92865. This activity commences at the Ray Miller Trailhead. The meeting at the Park & Ride is for your convenience only. Directions to Trailhead: Meet at Ray Miller trailhead at 9:45am in Point Mugu State Park, Malibu, CA 90265. Approximate coordinates[masked], -119.035919.

There is a day-use parking lot at the trailhead. Bring $$ if you are parking here because there is a day use fee. Last I checked it was $8. Bring exact change. Bring a few bucks more just in case parking went up. Otherwise you might be able to find parking on PCH and walk up the road to the trailhead. The sign at the turn off of PCH onto the road to the trailhead is La Jolla Canyon.

Description:
We will hike through La Jolla Canyon, to Mugu Peak and through La Jolla Valley (perhaps not in this order). This is a loop trail. There are restrooms near the trailhead.

There is not a lot of shade along this hike. Bring a hat with a brim, lug soled shoes, sunscreen, at least two liters of water (I recommend more if it's an extremely hot day or if you know you drink lots of water), lunch/snacks to share, insect repellent, money for parking.

Cancellation Policy:
Hike will be canceled due to heavy rain or fire.

*Note: This event is cross-listed with the LA 20s & 30s Sierra Club section.

Here is a potential place to go afterwards (http://bit.ly/1ggnLcW). The Malibu Cafe is an excellent place to eat according to the ABC 7 Video Report. The location of the Cafe is 327 Latigo Canyon Rd, Malibu, CA 90265

Looking forward to hiking and making friends, however I always work on the weekends. Are there any Tuesday or Wednesday activities available?
