Follow Oslo.AI on LinkedIn and stay tuned to AI happenings in Oslo: https://www.linkedin.com/company/oslo-ai/ ~~~~~~~~~~ Oslo.AI is a leading tech community with the mission to spearhead the AI ecosystem development in Oslo and beyond. We’re proud to partner up with Oslo Innovation Week and Microsoft to present you with a special event this September. You probably know that AI can play chess and swap faces, but can AI solve more meaningful problems faced by humanity? In this event, we gathered experts and professionals who do exactly that – applying AI to address societal challenges. From reducing carbon footprint to supporting cancer diagnosis, AI is being utilized across industries and organizations to develop innovative solution that contribute to United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Join us for an evening of knowledge sharing and connection building. Be part of a global movement that applies AI to design and build a sustainable future. ~~~~~~~~~~ The talks: 1. Jan Walter Parr, Chief Creative Officer @ EGGS Design "Design for A Sustainable Future with AI" As Chief Creative Officer of EGGS and “firesoul” for Sustainability, Jan Walter has experience from many design-driven innovation projects. In EGGS, he works on developing methods for designing new products and services that increase triple bottom line effects (People, Planet, Profit). Through practical case examples such as Loadsmart and Picterus, he will show how EGGS works with AI from a design perspective, and share the “value angles” that EGGS applies when hunting the triple bottom line. The talk will serve as an intro and reminder of the bigger picture of People, Planet, and Profit within which AI must aim to be beneficial. 2. Odd Sandbekkhaug, Co-founder & CEO @ Infiniwell AI "Democratizing healthcare through AI" What will we do when the supply of physicians is far outweighed by the demands of a growing and ever-longer-living patient population? Well it’s not a question for the future, we are already facing that situation today. How can we serve a growing population with fewer medical workers? In this talk we will explore how IoT + cloud based AI can help relieve the pressure and deliver new diagnostic options to people who never had access to medical specialists before. The last few years have seen an inflection point in availability of compute power, mobility and network infrastructure. It’s a perfect time to put artificial intelligence technology to real use today, and help improve lives at internet scale. 3. Anoop Sharma, AI & Analytics Practice Lead @ Cognizant Nordics (more details to come) 4. Alexander Moltzau, Co-founder @ AI Social Research (more details to come) ~~~~~~~~~~ Light food and soft drinks will be served at 17:00. The talks will begin at 17:30. Fredrik Aaserud, AI Advisor @ Inmeta “Data-driven business value – in the era of AI” How to drive processes for concrete business value based on the utilization of available data and technology? Fredrik will talk about his experience working on complex data in the transportation sector and the journey towards success for applied AI. 2. Håkon Lenschow, Senior Data Engineer & Marius Nilsen, Senior Data Scientist @ Capgemini “Machine learning with Azure – A case from Bane NOR” Through this presentation we will share our experiences with the Machine Learning project “Good Forecasts” from Bane NOR. Here we will go through how designed a hybrid machine learning platform that exploited both the existing infrastructure on prem and features in Azure. We will show a demo on how to set up an ML development platform with Azure Machine Learning Services, and how to take a model from development to production with Azure Kubernetes Services. 3. Christian Bering Pedersen, Technology & Data Lead @ Autonomous Mobility “Bringing autonomous vehicles to the roads of Scandinavia - an operational perspective” There is plenty of hype around autonomous vehicles, but what is the current situation in terms of practical implementation? Christian will present the current status of Autonomous Mobility’s work on bringing autonomous shuttles to the roads of Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Challenges include: getting the right approvals from authorities, finding the right routes, operating in adverse weather conditions, training and managing a crew of safety drivers (still required by law), collecting and analyzing operational data and many more. Reality doesn’t look like the hype - but the current reality of AVs is still pretty exciting. ~~~~~~~~~~ Light food and soft drinks will be served at 17:00. The talks will begin at 17:30. • [ Oslo.AI ] Applying AI for Smart City Development

In light of a common vision to foster an open and collaborative AI community in Oslo, we're happy to announce that we will be collaborating with Oslo.AI going forward! This means supporting each other in organizing and communicating future events. Below is the first event organized by Oslo.AI in 2019. We kindly ask you to register and secure your free ticket following the link below. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/oslo-ai-1-applying-ai-for-smart-city-development-tickets-58838585794 Oslo.AI is the Oslo chapter of City.AI global network. Visit https://city.ai/cities/oslo to learn more about the Oslo.AI community. ~~~~~~~~~~ Hei AI folks! Behind all the buzz and hype, what concrete value can AI create for the society as a whole and for us as individuals? Will AI accelerate or jeopardize the smart and sustainable development of cities? In this quarter's Oslo AI Meetup, we will dive right into the intersection of AI and smart city development. We have assembled a great line-up of speakers who will share their experience and learning from actually implementing AI within the smart city area. You will also meet your fellow AI professionals and enthusiasts, build connections and expand your network within AI & Machine Learning. RSVP today and join us for a evening full of inspiration, learning, discussions and networking! ~~~~~~~~~~ The talks: 1. Hans Martin Espegren, Data Science Team Lead @ Urban Sharing "Building The World's Most Efficient Bike Sharing Scheme with Machine Learning on Google Cloud" Urban Sharing processes and analyses the data from the major bike share schemes in Norway. In this presentation Hans Martin Espegren will demonstrate how this data is used to optimize both strategic and operational depressions, and how Urban Sharing turned Oslo Bysykkel into one of the most efficient bike share schemes in the world. Urban Sharing have built their platform using Google Cloud infrastructure, and Hans Martin will demonstrate some of the capabilities for doing data science and machine learning in the cloud. 2. Magnus Axelsson, Senior Data Scientist @ Inmeta "Digital farmers: How to optimize milk and meat production using CatBoost" In this talk, Magnus will review how Inmeta managed to improve Tine's incumbent model for predicting animal weight by 60% (MAE reduction) using machine learning techniques to help dairy farmers optimize milk and meat economy. He will focus on some well known concepts for iteratively diagnosing and improving algorithms such as e.g. learning curves, unsupervised feature learning and use of information theory for filtering out bad data when faced with dirty and heterogenous datasets. As a small bonus, Magnus briefly discuss how to implement a neural network on tabular data by use of embeddings on nominal data, since this is still relatively non-standard. 3. Asu Deniz, Cloud Solution Architect @ Microsoft "Inclusive Smart Cities Empowered by Cloud & AI" In this talk Asu will show how to create inclusive smart communities by using the power of AI and cloud, giving people with disabilities a chance to fulfill a life full of opportunities while making local communities thrive.
