Chinese Monthly Film Salon ' Together'

1)There seems to be growing interest as we focus on China. As we embark on a better understanding of China through these monthly films, I would encourage all of us to try to better understand China's great history. Here is one link from the History Channel;
http://www.youtube.co...

1B) The first film for our monthly Salon will be"Together"
Here are the links to find out more about this great glimpse into Chinese culture. It is a very worthy film with english subtitles;
http://history.cultur...
http://en.wikipedia.o...
I have shown this film before and it was chosen because it gives great insights into the soft and beautiful side of Chinese Culture. The photography and plot in this great film say much about the value of family, and the deeper Chinese soul and culture. Be prepared to see China in a new light!
2) Please note that all expected to bring some type of food donation for our potluck. This is not a major event but we encourage people to bring something in the form of a snack or food.  I will provide ice tea, water, beef dogs, and paper products. Main dishes and salads make things so great for everyone. We can also chip in for pizza. It is not fair to others to show up empty-handed. Even if you are Not eating, everyone is expected to contribute to these efforts by helping out in some way. Struggling internationa students  are most welcome, but should atleast help us with clean up, manning the grill, tech setup ect. If you wish to come earlier and help with future efforts, it would be most welcome.

3) The hope of this monthly salon is to host  films and some speakers. The films must have english or french subtitles. It is just getting off the ground, but we want to make it a very special evening focused on educating Canadians about Asia. While the forum is Asian, the initial focus will be on China.
This monthly salon will be the third Saturday of every month, and will start at 6pm. Please pass the word and the films and speakers will soon be announced. I am calling it an Asian salon because I want to hear of suggestions from our Asian members about events outside of China.
This forum is important and I encourage other forums like it. Asia and most specifically China are becoming very relevant to our ever changing world.  I believe it is in Canada's best interest to understand the great history of this ancient culture. It makes sense for us to start with China based on the numbers alone, but I also want to hear from Koreans, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indonesians, Burmese, Thailanders about future forums.

4) The following Chinese films have been suggested for our next event every third Saturday of the month;

I have searched for some Chinese movies for your feedback;

1. Together (this week)
2. The Road Home
3. Not One Less
4. the King of Masks
5.Young Again? (life of Chinese College students)
6. Chinese American Dreams ( *This will for the third sat in Aug 17 Aug)
They all have English subtitles.

Actually another two movies are also very beautiful and interesting, and they are purely English.
1. Wild Life
2. The Inn of Six Happiness.

    The food, friendship, film and discussion was merry and uplifting. Kay and I were blessed to meet each of you and look forward to more connection as possible. Thank you, Tony, for your gracious hospitality and coordination.

      Wes The room was full of so many interesting folks as we showed a very moving Mandarin film. I look forward to the next one. Please tell your wife I was grateful she joined us. Frankly I appreciated your thoughtful comments and found your story of playing with a handicapped child for two hours the day before, rather inspirational. I have a sister that is deaf and brain damaged and her world is very challenging indeed. How much difference we make when we choose not to judge and try to conform others, but to love them where they are. Please join us again.
