Welcome to the Ottawa OCD (Snow) club social group.

Update September 8, 2016: Due to unforeseen circumstances I have decided to put this group on hold for the time being. I will create new socials for this group in the near future. I would like to thank anyone who RSVP'd to the socials/events and apologize for the cancellations. Please stay with us, I will keep you informed of future updates and socials/events.

I am creating this group out of need that I feel has not been met in the community. There are many groups on Meetup.com and other social sites for Ottawa. However, there are few that allow people living with OCD to get together, socialize, and enjoy various arts, culture, geek, science fiction, fantasy etc. events. Living with OCD can make it challenging at times to feel that you belong in society and that you are not alone in your struggle.

I would like our group to be open, ethical, kind, caring, and respectful towards others.

HAVING FUN, SEXY AND SAFE ACTIVITIES.

I welcome and encourage people who have OCD to join our group. I welcome people from many different backgrounds and lifestyles such as LGBQT, BBW, Alternative Lifestyle and many more who have OCD to join this group. Lets make this the best group on Meetup.com.

You may be asking why I chose the name Snow as the group title. John Snow was a physician in England who worked on solving the cholera epidemic in Soho London England in the 1800's. Through survey’s of the general population he created one of first thematic maps of an outbreak. He determined from this map, a central location from where all the cases were spreading from. It was a water well and pump that the population were using. By removing the pump, the cholera outbreak diminished. I like to use him as an example, to show that even with OCD there are ways to reduce or mitigate the impacts of these conditions.

Canada Day, July 1, will be our very first social. I hope we can have at least 4-5 people, a Max of 10 RSVP to this event. THE MEETUP.COM GROUP IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE GENUINE OCD/ANXIETY AND WHO LIVE IN THE OTTAWA/NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION. I WOULD LIKE TO REMIND EVERYONE TO BE KIND, RESPECTFUL AND COURTEOUS TO FELLOW GROUP MEMBERS BOTH ONLINE AND AT EVENTS/SOCIALS.

IMPORTANT: THIS IS NOT A TREATMENT GROUP. PLEASE CONSULT OTHER RESOURCES IF YOU NEED TREATMENT.

PLEASE ONLY RSVP IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT ATTENDING GROUP EVENTS/SOCIALS.

INFORMATION FOR POTENTIAL SOCIAL EVENTS: YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY, TRANSPORTATION AND BELONGINGS. PLEASE PAY FOR YOUR OWN FOOD AND DRINKS.

Disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated, members that do so will either have their posts deleted or they will be removed from the group.

Potential group events/socials might take place either once to twice a Month on a Friday evening or Weekend afternoon.

Group Members need to RSVP in advance to events/socials and not at the last minute so the group leader knows who is coming and can plan accordingly.

The initial social will include a presentation about OCD.

Eventually if the group is successful trips may be organized.

As group leader I look forward to meeting everyone at the group socials/events. My hope is for everyone to have a good time and get to know one another. If you have OCD, please do not be discouraged by the instructions above as we are a welcoming group.

I would also appreciate any feedback from events attended and any suggestions group members may have for future events. Eventually as the group progresses, volunteer help would be appreciated.
