What we're about

The Ottawa Psychedelic Education Network exists to provide a community for those interested in psychedelics, entheogens, plant medicines, plant teachers and their related non-ordinary states of consciousness.

Through education on the true nature of psychedelic experiences as well as the rapidly advancing scientific research into their potential for healing and personal transformation, we hope to break the stigma surrounding psychedelics and those who use them. We support the legalization and sensible regulation of psychedelic medicines.

Our meetups provide opportunities to share one's experiences with like-minded individuals and are aimed at providing a supportive environment where one can feel comfortable examining the various insights, impacts and challenges generated by these experiences. We also place a strong emphasis on harm reduction and the safe use of psychedelic substances.

Please Note:

We ask that all members respect other people’s privacy. The current stigmas and prohibitions make it difficult for some to be open about their interests in this subject matter.

We do not encourage or condone the purchase, sale, transfer, or use of any illegal substances; nor partaking in any unlawful activities related to such substances. Please do not bring, buy, sell, transfer, or arrive on any illicit substances, or swap information on how to acquire them at any of our events.

Tea Time

Royal Oak(Laurier) , downstairs

Please join the Ottawa Psychedelic Education Network for Tea Time, a casual, open discussion of any and all aspects of psychedelic science, culture and history. The Ottawa Psychedelic Education Network aims to provide a safe space to host conversations for those who may not know where to find other like minded individuals due to societal stigma, misinformation, and the illicit status of psychedelic substances in Canada. New members are encouraged to come out whether you have experiences and knowledge to share or just a general sense of curiosity about the topic. We are asking for a simple donation of $2 to help with the group's expenses which are almost entirely related to Meetup.org. (Sorry, there will not be "psychedelic tea" nor will there be psychedelics of any kind. But we'll be at a pub so there will be beer.) Please note: do not bring, buy, sell, transfer, or arrive on any illegal substances, or come hoping to solicit information on how to acquire them at any of our events.

We recommend not going out for lunch to avoid being pulled out of the process. * One (or more) snack * Slippers as the floor can be cold * Comfortable but warm clothes (ideally layers so you can better manage your wellbeing – when sitting for three hours one can feel cold) * A pillow * Bed sheets (single bed) * A blanket or sleeping bag * A water bottle * An eye mask is something you might also find very useful * The mats and drawing material will be supplied. ----------- Holotropic means literally “moving toward wholeness”. The process can facilitate trance states and deep inner journeys. This practice was developed by one of the very early psychedelic pioneers and founders of transpersonal psychology, Dr. Stanislav Grof. It combines accelerated breathing with evocative music in a proper set and setting. Each participant or “breather”, accompanied by a “sitter”, uses their own breath along with the music to enter non-ordinary states of consciousness. This state activates the natural inner healing mechanisms of the individual’s psyche, bringing the seeker a particular set of internal experiences. One can undergo great catharsis or a reliving of past events including birth from conception, in the uterus, through the canal, and into the birth itself. Holotropic breathing can also be an introductory step to using psychedelics or a very appropriate way to integrate a psychedelic session. **Please note that for people who will be experiencing Holotropic Breathwork for the first time, there will be a 90-minute introductory talk given the evening before the workshop (or at another date chosen by facilitators). There is no extra cost for this talk. For more information on holotropic breathing: https://ottawaholotropic.ca/en/what-is-holotropic-breathwork/
