browser differences with SELECT onchange from keyboard

Hi all, can you indulge a quick techie question about browser differences with SELECT element onchange event from the keyboard?

What I'm seeing is that Firefox and Safari require the keystrokes followed by Enter, Tab or loss of focus before the onchange event is fired, whereas IE and Chrome fire the onchange on each and every keystroke. I've read online that the latter is considered an accessibility issue for keyboard users.

My question is, does anyone have experience with this issue and if so what did they do about it.

I googled the topic but got too many false hits on related but different topics. One of the few relevant hits was http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5095336/html-select-onchange-accessibility-concerns for which the top answer refers to http://www.themaninblue.com/experiment/AccessibleSelect/.

Cheers, JohnC
