Who we are: Out Spoke’n is the greater Portland area’s recreational bicycling club for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community and their friends. What unites our members is a love of cycling and a desire to ride with others who either share our persuasion or who do not merely tolerate our differences but embrace and celebrate them.
How we operate: We will not have a roster of regular ride leaders. Instead, any member of Out Spoke’n can post a ride that he or she intends to do and invite others to join them. You can set the route, the time, the speed, the skill level, the maximum number of riders and anything else that might be important to you. If you need help in posting a ride, just contact the Organizer or someone else who has already posted one and we’ll help one another.
Requirements: Everyone must wear a helmet on every Out Spoke’n ride. Bikes should be in serviceable condition and be properly equipped. Every rider should always carry at least one spare tube that fits his or her bike, a patch kit and some kind of pump----CO2 being the fastest and the best.
Safety is always a primary concern. Each rider is responsible for his or her own safety and is expected to ride in a manner which does not create a danger to others.
Myself and a couple of friends are beginning training for the AIDS/Lifecycle. A 545 Mile Charity Ride.
This will be the 5th year I have participated in this ride. We beginning training with a short 15 mile ride and increase mileage by 10 % every week until the ride in June.
I will be publishing the rides and the routes for those of you who want to get in shape for a Century or just take advantage of the social and physical environment.
Even if you don't want to commit to a long charity ride, this is a great time and opportunity to improve your bike skills and learn new interesting toutes around Portland.
If you have even a slight interest in joining this effort, please send me a note so we can have a personal discussion.
