2010 Day Boulevard, South Boston, MA
Come celebrate December's full moon and our history during a night walk at Castle Island.
Let's unwind and refresh under the full moon, which Algonquin Native Americans named the Cold Moon due to the long, winter nights in December. We'll have lots of opportunities for photos, learning about our connections to the moon, and things to do during this busy time of year to stay sane!
The walk will be a little less than two miles on flat stone, paved paths and wood planks. There is a section that extends out into and across the water, allowing for outstanding moonscapes. Here's more info and a map.
While walking, we'll also learn about our history at Castle Island - Yes, Africans were a significant presence at the castle, and later Fort Independence, until the Civil War. For example, did you Prince Hall was initiated into the freemasons there?
We will walk at a moderate pace; we'll go slower as needed for families, or even at a brisk pace to meet the groups needs. We will stay together.
We'll walk under clear or partly cloudy skies (not if it is raining - be sure to check the weather and Meetup!). Wear and bring...
• base layers. Merino or other types of wool and silk are great at keeping you warm and absorbing sweat.
• Sneakers, or sturdy, flat boots supportive enough for 2 miles, or hiking boots
• Hat, scarf and gloves
I'll bring hot cocoa to enjoy on our walk, if you wish!
