Vicki, It's not Phil! It's me, Elvis! I was also thinking of other rivers, like the Egg. At one time, we could canoe from New Brooklyn Lake all the way through!

Thanks everyone for the exceptional day; the leader, Vicki, and the group members, all made it one of the best river trips.

Good luck with the hat shopping, Phil. The Maurice River is like that fun uncle who sits on you until you give up your favorite teddy bear. We got thru a whole 8/10ths of the route until we started getting things taken from us. Wear your battle scars with pride!

Vicki, Rollie, and Dot, Great to see you all, again! You're all a fun group! Absolutely fantastic!
Is there a concern with debris and blowdown on the Maurice? Hope you guys have a good paddle!

Well, yes, there were new trees down, or maybe the trees were in the same place and the water was the thing that was up. Ha, a little bit of both.

I am bailing. Talked to a friend who saw the river and said it was really high and running really fast. Too much for me. See you next time.

As advertised this trip will be a bit of a challenge--fast and high water. Still no rocks!
Recent rains have given the Maurice an attitude--bring one to match!

The Maurice is designated a Wild and Scenic waterway and constitutes the longest natural river we have in south Jersey. It is actually paddlable from Iona Lake in Frankinville all the way to the East Point Lighthouse in Bayville. We'll only be doing a 10 mile section between Willow Grove Lake and Sherman Avenue. Lots of shade and trees and beautiful things you find in the forest along a river.

    How many miles??

    June 10, 2014

    • Vicki S.

This is a 10 mile trip, but it is trickier than 10 miles on the Mullica, so it is going to take longer. Plus, you should always expect a river to "take longer" when it is your first time doing it. It's just the way it works.

Vicki, Fred & I will be there and expect one of Fred's neighbors to join us. See you Sunday. Gail
