Hiking 101: Grassi Lakes and C-Level Cirque - Easy Hikes to Get You Started

If you have never gone hiking before, or have not donned the hiking boots in a long time, we are going to do two easy hikes to get you going.

 

Grassi Lakes

We start with the Grassi Lakes trail in Canmore that leads to two small turquoise blue lakes.

Vital Stats

Distance: 4km return

Elevation Gain: 165 m

Difficulty: Very Easy

Estimated time: 1-2 hours return (Estimated time is just that. An estimate)

 

C-Level Cirque

We shift up a gear as we take on C-Level Cirque, a somewhat steeper trail that takes you to a glacier-carved bowl partway up Cascade Mountain.

Vital Stats

Distance: 8km return

Elevation Gain: 455 m

Difficulty: Easy

Estimated time: 3-4 hours return (Estimated time is just that. An estimate)

 

Weather Forecast: Warm and Sunny

 

Stuff to bring

  • Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots.
  • Dress in layers. Mountain weather is changeable, so be prepared for anything.
  • Water, lunch and snacks
  • Sun glasses, sunscreen, lip balm
  • $10-$15 for gas
  • Bear Spray, if you have access to it.
  • National Park Pass, if you have one

Transport

Drivers: Thank you for offering to drive and provide rides for others. Please comment on the board and indicate how many people you're willing to offer rides to.

Passengers: Please email the drivers directly and request a ride. Simply RSVPing to this event does not guarantee you a spot in the car. It's your responsibility to arrange a ride with a driver. Please update the following spreadsheet once you have confirmed a ride:
