In the tradition of fun things to do in Los Angeles, and MY personal promise to have fun on a dime, this event is FREE to attend. Woo hoo!!!
When you RSVP - Please put what you're bringing!!!
The Plan: Leisurely pace, take it slow and hike up to Parker Mesa Overlook. This is a beginner level hike. The first 100 yards or so is a mild uphill, it will level out, then not very many up or downhills after that. It's approximately 3 miles each way with a 800 foot elevation gain. We hang out, watch the sunset, watch the full moon rise, share some laughs, enjoy the views, then head back down the trail to our cars.
Where & When: Meet at Trippet Ranch at 4:45-5:10 PM. Quick meeting to go over the game plan, then we hit the fire road/trail at 5:15pm sharp.
20825 Entrada Road
Please use http://www.maps.yahoo... (http://www.maps.yahoo.com) only! Google or mapquest will throw you off course.
Food: Please bring something for yourself and something to share too. Suggested items: water, bottle of wine, fruit, cheese & crackers, munchies, snacks.
What to bring/wear: definitely good tennis/trail shoes, jacket, flashlight (if you have blue or red lenses even better), a blanket to sit on, cups, a plate, fork & knife, and at least ONE trashbag or leftover grocery bag per person. YOU are responsible for taking your trash to the trash can (it's only about 100 feet from Parker Mesa on the way back to the cars).
This is a wine hike, so if you choose to bring a bottle, drink responsibly and sober up before we head back to the cars. I'll take your car keys and call you a cab if you're the slighest bit innebriated by the time we're back at the cars.
** Note ** This is a multi meetup event, and is being cross posted with Foodie Groups, Wine Lovers, O.S.S., Adventure Us/People, LA Hiking Groups, Professional Singles and all around schnazzy people!
Directions: You'll need to head into Topanga Canyon from either PCH or the 101 freeway, and make the turn at Entrada. It's a tight turn, and the street is very small. If you blink, you'll miss it. See maps below... zoom in and out to get your bearings. You can also click "hybrid" and "map" to see a photo of the area.
Follow entrada up and up and up making left turns. There is a gate which may throw you off in the first hundred feet. that is NOT the entrance. You need to go up Entrada! Read the street signs at every intersection... use GPS if you have to.
Parking: Park on the surrounding side streets off pavement where possible BEFORE the entrance to the park. Read the signs carefully. It's free to park. Do NOT park in the parking lot. It closes at sunset, and your car will be ticketed.
See the map below, and park right here in the center bullzeye of the screen. It's the turn just before the entrance to the park. You have to park off the pavement, and read the parking signs. If it says no parking in a particular section, don't park there.
After you park, walk past the guard shack and turn to the right towards the bathrooms. I will be at the picnic tables next to the bathroom from 4:30 - 5:15.
