The Catalina Verdugo Trail is a beautiful multi-use trail in the San Rafael Hills surrounding the Glendale Sports Complex. The trail head is located at the south end of the Complex and originates from the City’s ADA-accessible trail funded by a grant from the federal Recreational Trails Program. The under 4 mile long trail round trip meanders in and out of canyons at an easy grade and completes the loop by returning to the north end of the Complex. It also provides a connection on the south to an existing fire road at the "top" of the ridge line. This connection opens up numerous linkages with additional trails and fire roads in the cities of Glendale, Pasadena, and La Canada Flintridge. The trail features benches, interpretive signage, and a couple of bridges. The trail also interprets the history of the San Rafael Hills and the Verdugo Valley as it is named after one of its earliest residents, Catalina Verdugo, first lady of the Rancho San Rafael.
This is a mild to moderate hike but don't be fooled by the short distance, it is an uphill trail most of the way and we will be adding an extra leg to it, so the workout is there.
