Want to burn calories? This hike will do it! Forget going to Jenny Craig to lose weight, this hike will burn tons of calories. LOL
Meet at 12:45 PM, but leave at 1 PM.
Beyond the start, the trail is entirely exposed, so bring a hat, sunscreen, some snacks to share and plenty of water. There is no water or restrooms at the trailhead, but both are available at nearby Crescenta Valley Park. From Pennsylvania Ave. South, take Honolulu Ave. West (East of the intersection, the road is labeled Montrose, go figure) and drive a few blocks. The Park is between New York Ave. and Dunsmore.
This is an advanced hike of 6 miles RT, with an elevation gain of about 1,500 ft. Plan for about 3-to-3-1/2 hours. We'll may frequent stops for water breaks.
This is a difficult hike that goes all the way up. This isn't recommended for beginners! Bring 2-3 quarts of water and sneakers with good traction.
From the I-210, take the Pennsylvania Ave. exit and head south for about 0.5 miles. You’ll pass the Honolulu Ave. sign that heads West, but stay on Pennsylvania until it bears right and becomes Honolulu Ave. heading East. Turn right/South on Whiting Woods Road. Drive 0.3 miles and park at the end of the road. We’ll meet near the yellow gate at the entrance to the fire road.
This is a residential neighborhood so please be respectful.
