There is a trail and place called the rainforest hidden in the hills of Studio city. A place of high canopy trees, a running stream, and sounds of tranquility from the birds. One of several trails in the park, this trail was featured in the LA Times Outdoors section and boasts a spectacular view of the valley at the top. Along the way, you will cross several streams. Its a semi-moderate hike of 6 miles and 800 ft gain with a good amount of tree shade. We aren't going the whole route since I once took a group on this trail and some members got freaked out with a part of the trail that is washed out--they didn't want to climbed up it with their hands and feet. Members are welcomed to go the whole way on their own.
Rain postpones hike. Wilacre Park is located on the NW corner of Laurel Canyon and Fryman in Studio city. 3431 Fryman Rd Studio City, CA 91604. We will meet at the fire-road gate at 12:45 PM, but leave at 1 PM. Bring water, sunscreen, and a snack.
The park has a limited amount of parking and it is for $5. There is some free parking in the neighborhood on Laurel Terrace just North of Fryman on Laurel Cyn. (Next street light over) The neighborhood on Fryman has just been re-zoned for no parking. If your unsure about directions please use mapquest or yahoomaps.
Bring leftover Halloween candy on the hike. If you don't have any, no worries.
I don't recommend this hike for beginners.Need a sweep. Any volunteers? Can't do this hike without a sweep--don't want to lose anyone.
