Photos - All photos were taken by an Outdooraholics hike leader on previous trips so are the actual views that you will see from the route that you'll be hiking
Our hike starts off at the medieval small market town of Wendover right on the foot of the Chilterns Hills and once out of town we will start follow a quaint foot path passing through woodlands and forests. Walking down the route we are going to descend into valleys and fields all the way down to Princes Risborough before we emerge onto the Chiltern escarpment that opens up into a breath taking view of the countryside down below.
Our route will take us to the chocolate box Whiteleaf village distinctive with its ancient cottages and 17th century pub and then head back to our walk passing by the curious Whiteleaf Cross carved into the hillside chalk by monks in the 15th century.
After exploring more gorgeous countryside, we we will enter the Grangelands Nature Reserve below the Iron Age Fort and hike up the Pulpit Hill and from there head north where we'll actually be walking past the famous Chequers estate (the country retreat of the prime minister) and then finally go up the Beacons Hill. The current house at Chequers dates from 1565 and has a colourful history including links to the families of Henry VII and Oliver Cromwell. It was passed over to the nation in 1917 to serve as the Country retreat for current Prime Ministers.
Before returning to Wendover we are heading to Coombe Hill (highest viewpoint in the Chilterns for some spectacular views over the Vale of Aylesbury). From Coombe Hill trail climbs in and out of valleys before finally descending back to the small attractive town of Wendover.
