What we’re about
The "Over 40's" is a guideline, and by no means set in stone. Whatever the age though, we are always a really friendly bunch and nobody ever finds it difficult to fall straight in with the group at their first meeting.
We do a lot of green walks, and there are some quiz nights, bowling events, pub nights etc dotted into the mix when I get time.
Our events are mainly based around the Essex/East London area, but we do venture further afield on occasion. For instance, the odd day trip to Southend has been a favourite for a couple of years now.
I hope to see you at the next event.
Upcoming events (2)
See all- Hainault Forest Walk + PubHainault Forest Visitor Centre, Chigwell
Lets go see if we can find some more new bits of Hainault Forest and finish at the Colley Rowe Inn for a well deserved drink and/or lunch. I aim to be at the pub by around 2.30 to 3pm, and it is of course optional as always.
For those who do come to the pub after our walks, are you missing your Wetherspoon? I am, lol.
We're meeting at the lovely new Hainault Forest Visitors Centre Cafe, which is just a few minutes walk beyond the old Global Cafe where we have traditionally met in the past. Its 11am for approximately 11.15am departure.
We'll get a 247 bus at the end, for those needing to get back to the start point; or you can get one of the many other buses towards home. Don't forget that buses need a pass, an Oyster, or a contactless card - no cash anymore.
I ask for a nominal contribution of £2 to help cover Meetup organiser fees. I structure this so that nobody pays more that once a calendar month. No shrapnel please.
The café is fairly near the main road and also by the park's car park (if you don't mind the pay and display). Personally, I would either park in Fowler Rd opposite the main entrance to the park, and walk a short way up to the cafe; or the next one along which is Peregrine Rd, and only a stone's throw further away.
If you go to Fowler, park FULLY on the pavement as per the signs. If Peregrine, park as normal.
For those who are not driving, the (very frequent) 247 bus takes ten minutes from Hainault underground station, and stops outside the park entrance. Turn right out the station and cross the road for the bus stop two minutes away.
The 362 bus stops in the same place at the park, and the 150 goes reasonably near if you're on either of those routes.
Those coming from Romford can get the 247 from the opposite direction, Chadwell Heathers can get the 362. Careful with the 362 though, as it only runs about every 35 mins - here is a timetable where I have picked Chadwell Heath Lane as an example: https://tfl.gov.uk/bus/timetable/362?SelectedDate=saturday&LineId=362&Mode=bus&fromId=490004952E&direction=inbound
