What we're about

Welcome to the Ox, Bucks, and Bucks (former Penn Photography) group. This group is about taking great photographs around the southern part of the UK.

The aim of this group is to enable fellow enthusiasts to travel around this part of the country (and hopefully further afield) taking some fantastic photos, learning from each other and enjoying their love of photography. Meets will take place in lots of places including cities, National Trust, Countryside, and much more. I also hope to run sessions to teach elements of photography too (run as meets but on a different basis) where we will cover more functionality of our cameras and practice various skills.

All meets incur a charge of £1/meet for each shoot from members to help cover the cost of the Meetup group. This is payable upon attendance to the organiser.

If you would like to become a future organiser, please email me via Meetup. All I ask from organisers is that they are able to setup a meet at least every other month (although more are welcome).

Unfortunately, some people chose not to attend events despite signing up. For this reason, please be aware that should you chose to do this, if it happens twice, I reserve the right to remove you from the group. I do this to ensure that those who want to show up and do show up will get the chance to do so.

I look forward to meeting you in person and hopefully we can make this the best photography group possible for all levels.

David

Back to Basics - Level 1 Reading

The Forbury Gardens

£5.00

This session is a beginners session - we will look at Aperture, Shutterspeed, ISO and manual focus. This session is aimed at those who are new to their DSLR cameras and want to learn how to get a bit more from them. There will also be a more advanced session later in the year for those who want to learn more specific skills. There will be a one-off cost of £5/person to attend this meet - payable on the day. This goes towards running the group. On the day, please bring your camera with you and any lenses you may want to try out. You will not need tripods or anything but you are welcome to bring if you'd like. We will be walking around a bit from Forbury itself. It will help me to know what camera you are using so I can do a little research before hand to be able to help you better. Please put a message in the system, or send me a PM if you'd prefer. Please also bring an object with you that you are happy to place on the ground/bench that we can use to take a photo. Doesn't need to be big as such - just something that it easy to photograph. As ever, should the weather not be in our favour, I do reserve the right to cancel this event (24 hours notice always given) or possibly move it to another day if required. Look forward to seeing you on the day. I can be contacted on[masked] on the day itself should you need to make contact or message via the Meetup App. David

Back to Basics Level 2 - Night Shoot

OX1 3BW

£2.00

Join me as we explore Oxford by night. This session is a hybrid of 'back to basics - level 2' doing night photography and a shoot too. We will start by discussing how to do night photography, the skills required to do so and things you need to know (this will take 30-60 mins) and then we will go around Oxford and put this into practice. Hopefully for those who weren't able to join earlier in February, this may give you a chance to try again. For those that want to try something a bit different, I will also set a challenge of doing a night-shoot without tripod! I will show you how to do this (you need to know how to adjust your ISO on the camera) but we will discuss this. For those who want to keep it a bit easier, use the tripod! For anyone doing the back to basics level 1 day shoot (at 3pm), this is a separate session but follows on from what you will have covered daytime. Please note - the two sessions are considered completely separate. Sunset is just around 19.45pm so we will have limited daylight before it becomes night. I expect we may walk 1-2 miles during this shoot around Oxford so please be prepared for this. As this is a mixture of back to basics and standard shoot, there is a £2/person charge for this (which goes towards running the group). Recommended Kit: - Wide/regular lens (no telephoto required) Tripod (if you want to do night shoots the easy way) Remote timer Warm clothing (it is April after all) Good footwear As always, should the weather not be in our favour, i reserve the right to cancel this event at short notice (always 24 hours minimum) although always hope not to have to do so (and always look to re-arrange too). I can be contacted on the day by phone/text on[masked]. Hope to see many of you there. David

Close encounters of the National Trust (at Buscot Park)

National Trust - Buscot Park

£1.00

Join me for a National Trust visit with a twist. This will be the first trip to Buscot this year (another one later in summer is also on my plans as it is really nice). The official address according to their website is: - Faringdon, Oxfordshire, SN7 8BU More details on Buscot Park here: - https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/buscot-park The twist is that this shoot is not about landscapes but about close ups - both long distance shots and macro shots too (depending what is available in the gardens during April). The challenge for this shoot is to shoot between 100mm - 200mm (Crop or Full frame - i'm not that fussy) on your camera lens. You are obviously welcome to take other photos but the question is more - how much can you do at 100mm and above! Why is this a good skill - great for learning about street photography (as much of this is done at a distance) but also getting used to taking photos from a far and learning about getting your depth of field accurate. We will meet at Buscot at 14.00 which is when it opens and walk around the gardens and grounds. The water garden is a particular feature that is fun. You may also catch dragon flies by the ponds too (carry a big lens for these). There is also a really nice coffee shop for refreshments (i expect this shoot to be around 2 - 2.5 hours in total). Entrance if free for NT members, £10 if not a member and you want to go INTO the house (not something I am planning on myself), or £7 if just the grounds. Difficult to get to if you don't have a car but if you want to join - message the group and see who responds. I will be driving from Didcot to there so happy to take anyone on route (Abingdon is easy). Alternatively, if you can get to Faringdon itself - we can always pick up from there (a few buses go through here). I expect we may walk 1-2 miles during this shoot so please be prepared for this. Cost: £1/person (which goes towards running the group). Recommended Kit: - Camera Telephoto or Super-telephoto lens Macro Lens Good footwear As always, should the weather not be in our favour, i reserve the right to cancel this event at short notice (always 24 hours minimum) although always hope not to have to do so (and always look to re-arrange too). I can be contacted on the day by phone/text on[masked]. Hope to see many of you there. David
