Details

Starting from Dorchester-on-Thames (the Roman town of Doracina) with its fine 200ft-long late-Norman abbey, this short walk takes in the a stretch of the Thames Path as well as a small climb up to the top of Whittenham Clumps and views over the surrounding countryside.

Start Point

We meet in the free car park on Bridge End which is a sharp left turn just as you enter the village from the southerly side. There may limited spaces so you may need to continue into the village and park considerately along the High Street.

We start the walk at 10AM sharp. (Please ensure you're at the start point at least 10 mins beforehand).

The area is shown better in the Map link (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=213360911161723457176.0004851370bb17dd52fac&msa=0&ll=51.642301,-1.165001&spn=0.002327,0.005681)

Walking World grading: Moderate (Height gain 73m).

Dog friendliness: Unknown (open fields)

Estimated walk end time: 12:00

Lunch

For lunch afterwards we'll be trying one of the pubs in Dorchester (Fleur de Lys (http://www.fleurdelys-dorchester.co.uk/) or White Hart (http://www.white-hart-hotel-dorchester.co.uk/) seem likely - tbc).

If you would like to go to lunch, please reply "YES" to the "REPLY HERE IF YOU WISH TO STAY FOR LUNCH" post below.

If I don't see a request I will assume "No" for lunch.

Donations

We would welcome a donation of around £1 towards ongoing overhead costs associated with the Meetup service and ancillary costs.
