Walk - Brill - Boarstall - 6.9 Miles (11km)

Starting from the Windmill at Brill, the walk leaves the village on paths that lead across meadows and fields, and where there is woodland, copses or spinneys in every direction. There are quite stunning views across beautiful countryside at several high points.

The tiny church at the entrance to Boarstall stands before a National Trust property, Boarstall Tower, seen through the trees on the way past. Parts of the walk are on country lanes, mostly quiet with little traffic, which afford open views and wonderful passing scenes. It is an area of hilly landscape, and there a few quite strenuous climbs.

Brill Windmill stands 600 ft. above sea level, was built around 1680, and was last used in 1919 for milling barley.

The common ground all around is favoured by local dog walkers, and was once quarried for clay that made bricks and tiles that many of the local houses are built from.

Note that much of this area can be extremely muddy, even in summer, making it very important to have suitable footwear and clothing, and alternate footwear for the pub.

Start Point

We meet in the Car Park near the Windmill which is at the end of Windmill Road

We start the walk at 10AM sharp. (Please ensure your at the start point at least 10 mins beforehand).

Walking grading: Strenuous (Height gain 130m)

Dog friendliness: Fairly unknown (7+ stiles), one stile is very dog unfriendly for large dogs.

Estimated walk end time: 1 - 1:30PM

For lunch afterwards, we may be trying The Pointer ( (previously The Red Lion) in Brill. Prices are slightly higher than under the previous owners, but hopefully the cuisine is of a higher standard too.

If you would like to go to lunch, please reply to the "Reply below using the Reply button if you would like a place for lunch --------v" Post below.

On this occasion lunch will only be booked if there are sufficient numbers wanting lunch.

If we don't see a request we will assume "No" for lunch.

Car Shares

We like to reduce the impact on the areas we visit and its sometimes difficult to find places with adequate parking, so we encourage lift shares with our regular drivers.
If you need a lift, please post below indicating that you'd like a lift.

There's some comprehensive notes on Car Shares ( on our message board.

We would welcome a donation of around £1 towards ongoing overhead costs associated with the Meetup service and ancillary costs. We would be grateful if this was done before the start of the walk.

For new members or walkers, please read the Walkers Guide ( thread in the forum.
