What we're about
The Oxford Songwriters Meetup group aims to nurture people’s creativity, help you network with other songwriters and musicians, and learn some core writing skills and craft from songwriting teachers. In each meeting so far, we have covered a lot of ground, practised useful songwriting skills, got handy ideas on stimulating our creativity, received detailed handouts of teaching material, and learned and laughed a lot.
As time goes on, as well as more of the types of session we’ve already had, we’re going to introduce collaboration sessions, showcases (with feedback), and masterclass format (focussing on one local songwriter’s material).
My name is Alexander Massey, and have been fortunate to be able to make a good living as a professional musician - performer, teacher and songwriter - for 35 years. I started Oxford Songwriters Meetup in June 2016, because I’m really keen to help people develop songwriting craft in the rich and lively music scene of Oxford and beyond. I teach singer-songwriters one-to-one anyway, and thought it would be really fun, and effective, to help songwriters meet and learn alongside each other.
And yes, it turns out that it IS fun! You can find out more about my own work as a teacher and writer (along with my blogs) at www.OxfordSongwriting.com (http://www.oxfordsongwriting.com) and www.OxfordSingingLessons.co.uk (http://www.oxfordsinginglessons.co.uk).
