Periscopic is hiring a Backend Programmer with a Penchant for Data

We are currently looking for a Back-end programmer to join our happy team. A formal computer science education is ideal, but a strong penchant for efficient and elegant OO code is also okay. If you want an environment where you will be challenged and learn new things, this is for you.

What we hope to find in you:

  • 4+ years of backend programming (PHP and Python with current emphasis on PHP)
  • Strong understanding of various database technologies (SQL/NoSQL/NewSQL, column store, key/value, graph, etc.)
  • Experience with many database variants (MySQL, Hadoop, Redis, Neo4j, MemSQL, etc) with an emphasis on MySQL
  • Strong ability to making database recommendations based on data structure and coding implications
  • Demonstrated ability to architect and optimize a database
  • Comfortable with Apache
  • Experience implementing RESTful APIs
  • A desire to work with a team to create something great and not hide in a cubicle
  • A positive, can-do attitude and desire to do good in the world

Non-essential but helpful goodness:

  • Experience with Slim PHP
  • Experience with Slim PHP
  • Experience with Node.js
  • Comfortable with Linux and OSX terminal
  • Sys admin experience
  • DevOps experience
  • Capabilities in HTML/CSS and Javascript

The perfect candidate will be meticulous, detail oriented, and must possess creative and adaptive thinking skills. Statistics, machine learning, or any other language or special talent score big bonus points. A passion for dealing with data and making sense of large amounts of disparate information is mandatory.

Candidates must be resourceful, creative, detailed, and have a desire to work in a small business setting. We are a boutique design firm, not a large agency.

Please email your résumé, links to recent work/portfolio, and include the following:

  • Describe how you feel about data visualization.
  • Tell us about your favorite back-end development project.
  • Tell us your compensation requirements.

This is a full time, salaried position. Unfortunately, we cannot offer relocation compensation, so please consider that if you apply from out of state.

Periscopic is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Compensation based on experience.

You can learn more about us on our web site.
