  • Mirror Lake and Tom, Dick & Harry Mountain

    Gateway/NE 99th Ave TC Park & Ride

Start point: Mirror Lake Trailhead Trail Type: There and Back Again w/Loop Distance: 7.7 miles Elevation gain: 1460 feet High Point: 4,930 feet Difficulty: Moderate Bring: Good Boots, Hiking Poles and Spikes (if you have them), adequate food water and clothing. Pace: Averages 2 mi/hr, but there will be lots of breaks to stop and photograph views, flowers, trees, and just drink it all in. Group Limit: 6-10. I may manually add people from the waitlist. CARPOOL ARRANGEMENTS: We will carpool from the Gateway Transit Parking Garage. Let's meet at the NE corner of the parking garage. The drive distance is about 100 miles roundtrip, so riders please give your driver $10. Hike Description: Looking to score those iconic photos of Mt. Hood? Climb the well-graded trail to Tom Dick and Harry Mountain, one of the most accessible summit hikes, and see where they were all taken. Starting from the busy Mirror Lake Trailhead, climb roughly 900 feet and 1.5 miles to Mirror Lake along one of the most popular and easily accessible trails in Oregon. There will be families, kids, dogs, old folks, and tourists from Omaha in their tennis shoes, but don't lose heart. There's a reason this hike is so popular. After 9 quick switchbacks, you'll hear the outlet stream from the lake just before walking along it. Don't stop. At the 1.5 mile mark, continue straight at a signed junction toward Tom Dick and Harry. The trail then climbs west away from Mirror Lake for a mile before reaching an enormous rock cairn and an arrow pointing to your hard left turn. Another half mile and a couple hundred feet of climbing and the trail open up into a talus summit, full of great slab stones to lay upon and enjoy the view. Return the way you came, making sure to circle Mirror Lake and enjoy the reflective views. Once we reach the summit, we will stop and break for lunch, so pack a lunch or bring snacks. Please see full description from Oregon Hikers. It was too long to copy and paste on Meetup. https://www.oregonhikers.org/field_guide/Tom_Dick_and_Harry_Mountain_Hike This will be my first time on this hike and somewhat exploratory. The full description on oregonhikers shows a full trail map and step by step instructions. I'll have my off-line GPS and we should be fine. Make sure your profile picture has a recognizable image of yourself, not a flower or animal. Other organizers do not do this, but I like to know what you look like before I meet you. If you do not have a recognizable picture of yourself, please update your profile. Otherwise, you may be removed from the event. Standard Disability/Liability Waiver Statement: By RSVP 'yes' to this PDX Photography and Hiking event, you are accepting all liability for yourself. • Weekend Camping Trip Near the Coast

    William M. Tugman State Park

Looks like it's gonna be a hot summer, so I've planned a camping trip near the Oregon Coast. Tugman Park is relatively unknown, which is why it's perfect for this getaway. Nearby Oregon Dunes get most of the attention. Eel Lake, barely inland from the Oregon coast, is an angler's paradise. This hideaway is quiet, peaceful, and filled with nature. A small beach is ideal for swimming on a hot summer day. Eat lunch at the gazebo-style shelter. A lone hiking trail on the south end of the lake takes you away from the developed areas and into cozy, secluded inlets. You might spot some osprey, cranes, eagles, and deer. The campground works well as a headquarters for exploring Coos Bay, the dunes, and Reedsport. The campground is robust, and it includes 94 sites with electrical and water hook-ups, 16 yurts, the majority of which are ADA accessible and half of which are pet friendly, a hiker/biker camp, and plumbed restrooms with showers. Carpool information will be provided to attendees. Fee: $18 nonrefundable deposit per person (to be paid by PayPal) or you may get your own space. We will be located in Loop C. You may get your own space from the following link. Be sure to choose June 28th as the start date and 2 nights. https://oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/william-m-tugman-state-park/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=OR&parkId=402346#sr_a EVERYONE GETS ON THE WAITLIST FIRST. You will be added to the going list once the deposit is paid or you can provide the reservation information from Oregon State Parks. Please add yourself to the waitlist or text me at 5-oh[masked] to arrange payment and to be added to the list. The deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE. This is so that others will not have to make up the difference if you decide to back out at the last moment. You do not need to pay deposit if you get your own space. This trip is happening rain or shine. Standard Disability/Liability Waiver Statement: By RSVP 'yes' to this PDX Photography and Hiking event, you are accepting all liability for yourself.
