This is an all-ages, all-are-welcome, community dance event with live music and caller. Tonight’s contra dance features the band UnLeashed! and local caller Noah Grunzweig. Noah is filled with youthful energy, calls interesting and unusual dances, and is known for his easy-going manner on stage and for his quick thinking and flexibility.
As always there will be a lesson for newcomers at 7:30 and the dancing will start at 8 pm. At around 9:30, we’ll have a waltz, then a break, then more dancing until we end at 11 with a final waltz. Afterwards, we’ll adjourn to the Hillsdale Pub (1505 SW Sunset Blvd) for socializing with friends old and new.
It’s fine to come by yourself, as you’ll find plenty of partners on the dance floor! There are always new folks in attendance as well as experienced dancers who will be happy to show you the ropes. Please RSVP so folks who are shy about showing up alone will know they are among friends!
Contra dancing is aerobic so dress accordingly and wear comfortable shoes preferably with suede or leather soles (or you can wear any kind of shoes with a sock pulled over them!)
Cost: $6 for students/seniors, $8 general admission. Please bring cash or check (if money is a barrier, contact us).
We love contra dancing and we’d love to share this dance with you, so join us on Saturday!
