Hollywood Director Tom Shadyac’s Film, I AM, to be Shown at The UNITY Center

Tom Shadyac, one of Hollywood’s most successful comedy directors (Ace Ventura, The Nutty Professor, Bruce Almighty) had it all – mansions, private jets, the Hollywood lifestyle – until a serious accident made him rethink everything.

“Facing my own death brought an instant sense of clarity and purpose. If I was going to die,” he asked himself, “what did I want to say before I went?”

When Tom finally recovered, he sold his estate, moved into a trailer park, and simplified his life. Then, he took a single camera and a four-person crew to start an amazing journey to create a documentary that asked two questions: “What’s wrong with the world?” and “What can we do to fix it?”

The result, is a 77-minute documentary, I AM, a surprisingly positive and uplifting film. As our guide, Tom interviews scholars, scientists, activists, entrepreneurs, and spiritual teachers whose wisdom and insights lead him to conclude that we have the power to transform our lives and the world around us.

Offered originally at a few, select theaters (only one in Portland in 2011), I AM will be shown at The UNITY Center, 20255 Willamette Drive, in West Linn Friday, November 2, as part of the center’s First Friday Series – “The Shifting World.” Donations for the showing will be shared by The Foundation for I AM and The UNITY Center.
