apache leap

this trail starts on hwy 177 south of superior and ends at the oak creek camp ground on hwy 60 east of superior. depending on trail conditions, this can be a 4.0 rated trail. interesting rocky trail and a rock wall to climb. scenic with nice views.

cb radio and front and rear tow hooks required. locked and lifted recommended.

if the waiting list should become long, we will repeat this run .

We were able to get about a third of the way in. At that point, we ran into some nasty, sticky mud that made it impossible to proceed. Still a great time though!

Thanks, Rob & Sharon, the weather made for a challenging attempt and it was fun to be out with a great group of people. I'm amazed how the mud can stick like glue yet be a soupy slippery mess and drip off tire to quickly coat rocks and make them slick as ice. Looking forward to trying it again after the goo dries.

we have received a query about accommodating people who are on the waiting list.we would prefer not to expand the size of the group. we are willing to do the run again on april 6 if enough people are interested. say 5 or more. let us know.

I would rely on your experience with this trail to guide any decision and rescheduling is not a problem. As it stands now, I'll see you Saturday morning.

I am in Rain or Shine. Booked up for too many weekends already. Gotta go when you gotta go! Just be sure and have your Winch/Strap D-Rings and controller out and ready to go. This is what it is all about.

we have been asked, because of the weather forcast, if the apache leap run is on sat. we prefer not to postpone the run, because of the inconvenience to people with busy schedules. however, there is no doubt that wet slippery rocks will make a challenging trail more challenging, maybe impassable. perhaps everyone can weigh in, go or no go.if no go ,suggest a new date. unless the majority want to postpone, see you sat regards

    Can't make that date :-(

    February 21, 2013

  • rob b.

Sorry to postpone this run. We went to the end of the trail today, Thursday, at noon and feel that with snow obscuring parts of the trail and either snow or snow melt on the rocky hills and rock wall, making them very slick, we thought it best to reschedule this run to Saturday, March 9. Hope everyone can make the new date.

    Regards,

    Rob & Sharon

I am thinking about bringing my son, he is almost 2 years old. How many hours do you think this trail run is? He only sits still for an hour or two at a time.

    this trail is blast

    February 7, 2013

  • rob b.

the only bypass is mid point in the trail there is a graded road out to the pavement. in most cases, any one choosing this option would need to find their own way out. the rocky portions of this trail are a lot like payette draw, only more of it. an fj should do fine.

    February 6, 2013

  • Owen

Are there bypasses to the 4.0 parts? I'm IFS with a locker and lift. The hardest trails I've done are probably Payette Draw ( not the water fall ) and Lower Terminator .
