August 13 will mark the official start of the PHPAmersfoort usergroup with this first official meeting. During this meeting you'll get to know us, ours goals, and eachother, as well as learn something on unit testing.
19:00 - Coffee, sandwiches and welcome
19:30 - Introduction by PHPAmersfoort "enabler" Jelrik van Hal
19:45 - Harrie Verveer: A Hands-on Introduction to Writing Unit Tests Using PHPUnit
20:45 - Social interaction!
~22:00 - End of meeting
We wanted to arrange a top-notch speaker for our first meeting, and were very happy when Harrie Verveer confirmed he would be coming. He has done this talk before in London and Chicago to high ratings, and since unit testing is an important subject, we felt it fitting for our meeting.
A Hands-on Introduction to Writing Unit Tests Using PHPUnit
A lot of people will tell you that unit-testing is easy, but in practice it's one of the hardest disciplines to get right. When you've never written unit tests before you'll probably have a million questions really fast; your code has got a lot of dependencies, runs queries on your database and sends out e-mails, and there seems to be no way to write reliable tests for this code that you can actually use time after time. No worries! Harrie is here to help :-)!
