Info for Appleseed KD (Known Distance) Events Only follows - Not regular Appleseeds
The info below applies to KD (Known Distance) Appleseeds only - not the regular Appleseeds. This is a center fire only event.
What this is:
This is an intermediate level class for rifle shooters. This is NOT a beginner class for new centerfire rifle owners. This is a class for shooters who have some experience with their rifles but who may lack confidence at longer distances. We will not spend a lot of time on the basics like we do at one of our Project Appleseed 25 meter events.
We will have minimal class time mostly spent on trajectory. Please try to have a 25 yard zero on your primary rifle if possible. We will shoot verification sighters at 25, 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards.
Shooters will have at least two or more opportunities, to earn a Project Appleseed Long Distance rocker by qualifying Rifleman at[masked] yards. Time permitting we will shoot to 500+ yards at steel targets.
What to bring:
Eye and ear protection,
centerfire rifle capable of firing accurately to 400 yards, preferably zeroed at 25 yards.
Also, 300 rounds of ammunition of a similar kind, i.e., all 147 grain 30-06 loaded to same specs, or something of that nature.
Notebook and writing instruments.
Teachable attitude, most important.
Whatever you plan to eat for lunch. It will be a working lunch with presentations in the Elk River training center.
Clothing appropriate for the weather including rain gear. We shoot regardless of weather conditions.
Misc: We will post a template of range data card, to copy and bring. We suggest you make a number of copies of this. We fill focus extensively on range estimation and shooting sighter groups every 100 yards out to 500 yards. The goal is to make sure you leave with precise data about where your shots hit at these distances and establish your rifle’s BSZ (Battle Sight Zero). We will provide multiple opportunities to qualify KD at this two day event.
We will spend a lot of time going back and forth to the target line out to 400 yards. There is a good range road down the center of the range and you may drive your vehicle back and forth to save time or bring an ATV or bicycle if you like to save time and energy. There is no transportation provided by the range or Project Appleseed.
Note: Effective 2016, range fees for KD events will be $25/day.
