Talk #1: High Tech: Data Scraping and Analysis from a Popular Cannabis Strain Database
Speaker: Tyrell Towle
Description: Documenting and systematizing reliable scientific information about cannabis remains an ongoing challenge, even with the recent shifts in public opinion and the legal status of cannabis. Despite this challenge, some organizations have made attempts to systematize such data and make it available on database websites. One such database of cannabis strain information is Kannapedia, provided by the company Medicinal Genomics. In this talk, I will describe how I wrote a python program to scrape the Kannapedia database for cannabis strain information and saved the data into a CSV file. I will also go through some of my data analysis and share some interesting conclusions about cannabis that I was able to elucidate from the data.
