• Palm Beach Pack & Paddle Monthly Meeting
If you are new to the Club or have just found us on Meet-up, this meeting will be a great informal way for you to mingle and ask questions about some of the Club's upcoming activities. Due to the holiday, we will meet not at Okeeheelee Park's Nature Center, but at the Nature Center's Screen Room at 6:30 for a pot-luck dinner. As a guest, just bring yourself, no need to bring food. Directions: turn at the Nature Center sign. Turn right on the dirt road; signs will direct you. As soon as you turn right, it will look like you are going to hit a fenced equipment yard. Turn right again and follow the road to its end. We will have a brief meeting where you will learn about upcoming activiites and trips and will meet the slate of officers nominated for 2019. We invite you to attend up to two activities, other than meetings, and then join our club as a paid member, as you dues make the club possible. The cost is only $30 per year, $35 for a family, and you get the remainer of 2018 free with your 2019 membership. We look forward to meeting you.

  • Everglades/Turner River Camp & Paddle
It's winter, so that means it's Everglades time (no mosquitoes)! Join us for an incredibly lush 9 mile paddle through Big Cypress National Wildlife Refuge, sorta near Everglades City. We will be paddling through the three primary environments of the Everglades: cypress swamp, sawgrass, and (wait for it) MANGROVES! Tunnels so tight we will have to pull ourselves along, branch to branch. We will start at the Turner River Launch, about 1/2 mile east of the campground , at 9:30am on Saturday. Members from the Miami area could do this a day trip. We will do the the entire river, and run our own shuttle. This trip is classed as Advanced, so no first-timers, strong beginners welcome. This is a long trip, no take outs midway. There are lots of tight turns requiring lots of boat maneuvering and good technique, so maybe more strenuous than you're used to? Please be able to maintain the leisurely pace of 2 mph. No pool toys on this trip, you must have a decent boat (longer than 10 feet, probably shorter than 14 feet, exposed rudders can get caught up in the mangroves). We will be staying at the Trail Lakes Campground, 40904 Tamiami Trl E Ochopee, FL 34141 (239)[masked]. The moon will be dark, it will be prime time for sightings of the illusive Skunk Ape! Please tell them that you are with Palm Beach Pack & Paddle when you make you reservations. Their rates are $27.50 per tent/night, 2 on the site, $5 pp for each additional person. It goes up to $33/night for water and electric. RVs are $38.50/$49 per night 30A/50A. Members are responsible for their own reservations. The campsite is far from civilization, so bring everything that you need. The campground has rentals, $60 per canoe/kayak for the day, if you can't get one of ours. We can figure out the shuttle. Bring the usual: water, snacks, lunch, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, bug spray and the spirit of your choice. No flip-flops, wear stout sandals with a heel strap, or even better, closed water shoes. http://www.nps.gov/bicy/planyourvisit/canoeing-and-kayaking.htm http://goo.gl/3bZdDa The Trip Map: https://goo.gl/U51gRV
