September 17th Meetup is a book that's Folksy and fresh, endearing and affecting, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is a now-classic novel about two women: Evelyn, who’s in the sad slump of middle age, and gray-headed Mrs. Threadgoode, who’s telling her life story. Her tale includes two more women—the irrepressibly daredevilish tomboy Idgie and her friend Ruth—who back in the thirties ran a little place in Whistle Stop, Alabama, offering good coffee, southern barbecue, and all kinds of love and laughter—even an occasional murder. And as the past unfolds, the present will never be quite the same again.
The caveat to the Lesbian Bookclub Social is that once we read a book, each participant must bring a dish to share from the book or it's location, be creative!
In other words, let’s say the book we’ve read mentions a vacation in Italy (Italian food) or France (French cuisine), NewYork (Deli Food, Hot Dogs from a street vendor on the corner), Chicago (Pizza, Hot Dogs, Italian, Etc). This is what makes this Bookclub fun. If the book mentions several locations or types of food then that’s what we end up with for dishes to share!
Each month, our Lesbian Bookclub Social will offer up not only good company, stimulating conversations but fun food and maybe some delicious dishes. Did I mention an opportunity to engage with other like minded Lesbians....
Because this meeting is held at a private residence, location of meeting will only be given out to those who RSVP.
This Meetup is Limited to 20 Lesbians due to seating availability.
Please understand that if you RSVP and not show, you’ve taken away from someone else that wanted to attend.
The month of October will be a Mystery Novel " Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore , Novel by Robin Sloan and Rodrigo Corral.
At our October Meetup we will be voting on a "HISTORICAL FICTION" read, so please bring a synopsis of one that you’d like the group to read and let’s vote on it. Make sure you have the title, author and its availability as this information will be shared with the group.
Happy Reading & See You Soon !!!
Reservation fee of $ 3.00- $5.00 due at meeting.
