Palmerston North Skeptics in the Pub

Here in the damp springtime, as the river levels fluctuate and climate change deniers point to chilly southerlies, it is good to know that there is a place where we can chat about scientific, rationalist and skeptical issues in an atmosphere that allows for conversation, some beer perchance, and some food. Note to self: that sentence is too long.

I will endeavour to come to the meeting with things of interest to discuss, as I always do. I will search the interwebs for items that can form the basis of an interesting, rational and scientific discussion.

However, my skeptical friends, it is also down to you to make the evening go with a swing. Please feel free to bring something of interest to talk about.

As usual the rules of fun and politeness reign. We are not here to change each other, but to talk and discuss and listen. And drink and eat. It can be robust discussion, but the bottom line is that if you find you are not persuading the others of your position, let it go.

Look forward seeing you all on the 2nd Friday of the month.

I'll see everyone in two hours! I'll be the guy sweating bullets. It's like an oven outside today.

Bugger! I have an unexpected double booking. Would anyone mind if I'm late. There is an event on in the library on Constitutionalism by Sir Geoffrey Palmer and Andrew Butler at 6:30-8:30pm. I could attempt to lure a few of them to Skeptics after.

How late do you usually run Matthew.

Hi Andrew, we run to about 9:00 though some the younger friskier ones go on a bit later if they are having fun :-)

Ok thanks Matthew, I'll try to leave early to get there. Just this 'constitutionalism' topic is important to me. Just a few doors away.

I hope you get well soon! It's a pain to get sick right when the weather is improving. Hope to see you on Friday.

It might be a good idea if the organiser is aware of the date of the meeting :-)

No criticism of Moxies Matthew but the turkish place across the road might be a good alternative. Not sure if Christian or Muslim, but good food. Lol

Thanks for the replies. I'll definitely be there at the next meeting, on the 9th. Looking forward to it, see you then!

Hi Aaron, I dropped out of the last one at short notice, for lack of attendance. I'm come to the next. Perhaps Summer will bring more people. I've been away for 3mths. Can't account for everyone else.

Hi Aaron. Yes we still roll once a month. You can find details of where and when we meet on the Meetup events, you should be able to find the meeting we are having on the 9th. We are at Moxies Cafe from 7pm.
It would be good to see you if you can make it.

Sorry for being blunt, but I have to ask: Is this event is still a regular thing? I’m eager to attend, but there doesn’t seem to be much activity here on or the Skeptics in the Pub website.

I’d really like to get involved with the skeptics community. If this Meetup isn’t still occurring I’d welcome any recommendations for something similar in the local area.

Any guidance would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
