Pan African - of or relating to all people of African birth or African descent (African-Americans, Caribbean Americans, Continental Africans etc). If this is you, consider the following questions… Are there days that you wish you were connected with more people in the city that do what you do that look like you? Are there days that you think to yourself you would really like to/need to connect with more Black people in the city? Are there days that you really feel the need to be around Black folks just to maintain your sanity? Are there days you just need to vent to someone about the 1,636th microagression you experienced at work (where you happen to be like one of two Black people that work there)? Are there days you want to debate with folks about whether putting sugar and butter in grits is more appropriate than salt and butter? Are there days that you want to be around for this debate because you are aware how important it is to some of us (friendships have been lost), however none of it really makes sense to you because you grew up on the continent (for a similar debate see Nigerian vs Ghanaian jollof rice) or maybe you just didn’t grow up eating grits?
If anything written here resonated with you then this is the Meetup for you. Additionally, although we may share many of the same experiences culturally, we are by no means a monolith and there is much diversity within the Diaspora. The primary purpose of this meetup is to embrace that diversity and to provide opportunities for us to come together and make genuine positive connections. These connections will hopefully generate new long lasting relationships of all kinds; friendships, business, etc. I look forward to building with you all.
