“Flossie has a voice as clear and tuneful as a lark, with a pureness of quality to stop you in your tracks in the forest of a song” – Colum Sands. It’s a pleasure to welcome back French born singer Flossie with her extensive repertoire of soulful songs in English and French. She will be gracing the stage on Sunday afternoon and with Keith Donnelly on Sunday evening.

Flossie Malavialle is a French singer who started getting involved in the British folk scene in[masked] while she was on a teacher exchange in the North East of England. After her exchange was over, she went back to France for a year but she missed the life she had had in England so decided to come back! She is now based in Darlington, does some supply teaching in the area when needed but is mainly focused on her singing. Flossie’s repertoire is very open as she likes all sorts of different music genres. Her songs include famous numbers, including Allan Taylor’s “Roll on the day”, Kieran Halpin’s “Making up the miles”, Colum Sands’ “The child who asks why”, Starrett and Laird’s ” John Condon” but also Edith Piaf’s eternal favourites “No regrets”, “La vie en rose”… or Jacques Brel’s “Amsterdam” and “Ne me quitte pas”…

She has released 10 albums since 2002. The latest addition to the collection released October 2012 is called “X” and celebrates the 10 years that Flossie has spent in the UK so far. The album features songs by Martyn Joseph, Kate McGarrigle, Carole King, Eva Cassidy, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Randy Newman etc…

Flossie also performs with Keith Donnelly & the “Dark Horses” album (January 2010) is a collection of songs written by Keith Donnelly and interpreted by Flossie. Again, this album was released to coincide with the Fairport Convention Wintour for which they did the support in 2010 as their duo “Dark Horses”. They also took the album to Australia where they toured extensively in the Spring of 2011.

Here’s a sensational performer. She intrigues listeners with her quaint French-Geordie accent and charms them with her stories and ready laughter. Yet it’s her singing that bowls them over. An artist’s artist, a people’s artist, here’s a mammoth talent emphatically radiating that magical X-factor. A veritable show stopper!”
