PH Alliance Meetup

  • Jul 9, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We're honored to have Joe Lstiburek joining us for this month's meeting. He will be presenting on retrofits of masonry buildings--a topic germane to Chicago, and one that Building Science Corp has studied in depth.

Due to his schedule, we'll have the presentation only (no business meeting) at 7pm sharp. More details to follow.

Joe's update to the session description:

Joseph Lstiburek will look at multifamily brick building retrofits, mass walls, freeze-thaw issues and the Cubs prospects this year.  He has been known to appreciate fine red wine and therefore the evening may go longer than planned.

Note--refreshments will be provided.

Suggested donation $10 for PHAUS members, $20 for non-members.

Also... I got into a really good conversation about experimental materials with someone whose name I think is Nick. He has a design/build firm at Lake and Western. I couldn't find him on the RSVP or Meetup members list. Does anybody know who this might be? Thanks!

Hi J.A. - did you use the [masked]m email per Mark?

      July 25, 2014

    • J.A. G.

I did, but it raised repeated warnings on my computer that the address did not exist. Very weird. I'm not entirely sure which address eventually worked—I tried 'em all. There were two on the website and another yahoo mail address on the vmail message. The good news is the Mark wrote me back, so something worked! Thanks for checking back.

I was unable to attend. Was the webinar recorded and available for viewing?

    July 10, 2014

    • Tom B.

Yes, it will be in the PHAUS database (member's area).

I wish I could have attended. It sounds like it was a really good event. But, as I said, the budget is stretched to the limit at present. Maybe next month.

Hi Audrey, Just a reminder that most webinars are recorded and posted in a library of webinars on the PHAUS website. Members of the alliance have access to all of these inspiring events over the past several years. A benefit of membership.

That was really quite interesting last night. My background is a probably a little different than most of the people's on this list, so it was the first time I had heard the term "sacrificial mortar," which is pretty much my new (old) favorite idea... Is anyone familiar Ecovotive, a company known mostly for making a styrofoam alternative using plant waste and mushroom mycelia? Steelcase and Crate & Barrel are among its clients. I met founder Eben Bayer at a conference a few years ago—really impressive. Anyway, they have also been experimenting with insulation products, building a "tinyhouse" proof-of-concept demo: http://www.fastcoexist.com/1682486/this-tiny-house-was-grown-from-mushrooms, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUxael8qV78, http://mushroomtinyhouse.com/

Also, mycelia bricks used in a new MoMA architecture exhibit: http://archrecord.construction.com/news/2014/07/140701-David-Benjamin-The-Living-Autodesk.asp

Sorry, the budget is stretched to the limit at present. I don't have $20 to spare. Plus a last-minute work assignment came up so I am giving up my spot on the RSVP list.

Lauren, Mark, Robert, I noted your guests and am reducing the total on the RSVP to account for them. Thanks for letting me know.

I will also be bringing one other person from my office, but there wasn't a way to add them on the RSVP

I registered through meetup and on the PHAUS as directed but I will be at the meeting in the Hafele showroom.

I will be attending PLUS ONE GUEST. Please advise how to add guest without creating a Meetup account for them or joining this Meetup.

    Thanks,

Just a reminder that we're suggesting donation of $10 for PHAUS members, $20 for non-members for educational events that are not commercial, such as this one. If you'd like to pre-register (or register for the webinar), see the national calendar on the PHAUS page. Thanks!

Thanks Tom. Robert will be good to see you there as well - thanks for the great Priority Energy facility seminars.

Just established maximum attendance of 75 (Hafele's max). Though we only have 25 signed up now, the invite just went out to another few mailing lists, so it could fill up. It's Joe after all.
