  • Short for "Music And Gaming Festival," MAGFest is a four day-long event dedicated to the appreciation of video game music, gaming of all types, and the gaming community. The event runs 24 hours a day, and offers consoles, arcades, tabletop, LAN, live video game cover bands, chiptunes, vendors, guest speakers, and much much more.

What makes MAGFest unique is that it's a non-profit event run by fans for fans. There are no corporate sponsors, no over-crowded showfloors, and no top-secret-behind-closed-doors showings. MAGFest is built from the ground up to focus on community and fan creations, which creates an environment that no other expo or convention can recreate.

As far as I can tell, I have the above information from everyone signed up for this event except the following: Charlie Kerr, Cecil Solomon, Joe, Brighten, Dan Young, Peter Daniels, Dan Kelleher, John, Danny, and Deshea Mack. If you are only signed up to attend, that's fine, but if you would like to GM at MAGFest, I will need you to email the above information to me at [masked] as soon as possible. Thanks!

Please note: if you plan to run (and not just attend), I'll be finalizing the schedule this weekend, so please be sure to do it before the weekend. Thanks to everyone for helping!

I prefer to GM low-level scenarios. Was not planning on purchasing a badge but will if you recommend doing so. I am planning on GMing as many slots as you need.

We will likely need people to run the quests (which are level one only) a lot. They were very popular last year.

I set up two tables in each timeslot for a PFS Tutorial table to help people with character creation and leveling. I figure they can also double for running the Quests since if we can run them through 1 or 2 quests after character creation, then they should be able to complete the rest of the quests during a subsequent tutorial session. Or maybe one table will run quests while the other goes over character creation/leveling advice.

So our room assignment has changed. We'l be sharing rooms 12 & 13 with DDAL. Either one of these rooms was bigger than the two rooms we had before put together, and I've been told that each room should be able to support 10 round tables, which is more than the 8 tables that we'd been expecting in the previous room assignment. Also, we won't have to worry about manning an info desk in two separate rooms this way.

For those not GMing, please buy badges soon. I've been informed that less than 25% of our weekend attendee badges are still available for sale at this point. Preregistered badges will be cheaper than badges purchased at the door. https://super2017.uber.magfest.org/uber/preregistration/form

If you plan to GM at least 4 slots, then you will be eligible for bage reimbursement if you buy a badge. Otherwise, I will make arrangements to get you comp badges for the days that you GM. A list of volunteer perks for people who buy a badge can be found here: http://magfest.org/vo...

Each slot you GM will count for 6 volunteer hours.

The next MAGFest will be running from Thursday, January 5th through Sunday, January 8th, and we'll be looking for support from local PFS members to help GM. Slots will most likely be running as follows:

    Thursday 1/5: Slot 1 (3PM - 7PM), Slot 2 (8PM - 12AM)
    Friday 1/6: Slot 1 (10AM - 2PM), Slot 2 (3PM - 7PM), Slot 3 (8PM - 12AM)
    Saturday 1/7: Slot 1 (10AM - 2PM), Slot 2 (3PM - 7PM), Slot 3 (8PM - 12AM)
    Sunday 1/8: Slot 1 (10AM - 2PM)

Please let us know in advance what you would be interested in running, and especially let us know whether you would be available to GM during the day on Thursday or Friday. Comp badges will be available for volunteer GMs or if you purchase a badge, your GM hours can be applied towards your volunteer service hours for various perks up to and including badge reimbursement. Any questions, please ask. Thanks!

I know Brett Abbot demo'd 5e at Pathfinder last year, but I have no idea what's going on with that this year. That happened under someone else at tabletop, but if I can help move things along in that area, please let me know. But yeah, that would be under someone else and happening in a different room.

You can find the list of scenarios we ran at MAGFest last year here: http://files.meetup.com/4858632/MAG%20Fest%20schedule.xlsx

We mostly try to run things appropriate for new players, but as you can see, we had some 5-9s going as well that all went off. Most likely, we will continue to run evergreens and season 8 quests, but we should probably avoid repeating anything else that we ran last year. MAGFest is an annual event for most attendees, and we should expect a lot of the people who played with us last year to return and want new things to play, in addition to brand new players.

    September 28

    • David

Anyway, keeping that in mind, please let us know what you would like to run. I would like to limit Thursday to just evergreens, 1-5, and maybe 1-7s, expanding Friday to include 3-7s. Maybe start throwing in 5-9s on Saturday. I would also like to try and run as many specials as possible. The pregen ones seem the most easy to run for new players, including the series of goblin modules, etc.

Anyway, let us know what you would like to run and what days you're available, and we'll get to work forming up a schedule. For scenarios, hopefully Trevor or Terry will be able to order them for free for you from Paizo and get them to you well before MAGFest's start date. Thanks!

So it looks like we'll be on the 2nd floor back with the rest of tabletop this MAGFest. If you look at the linked map, we'll be in rooms 14 and 15. We should be able to fit four round tables in each room and still have room for additional rectangular tables in front for laying out our printed materials, laptops, and printers, etc. We'll also be able to claim any round tables in the hall outside the room for when we have overflow so I'm thinking that we can schedule for up to 8 tables per slot, and then run extra tables of something at tables in the hall when/if we have more people who want to play than we have events scheduled. Having two separate rooms should also reduce the amount of noise somewhat. Thoughts? http://www.marriott.com/hotelwebsites/us/w/wasgn/0-modules/meetings/wasgn_bem_pdfs/wasgn-16-GN-2071_National_Harbor_Conference_Rooms.pdf

Last year, the convention ran from Friday to Monday, and we had a room that only allowed for 5 round tables. They were pretty much full for every slot. On Friday, they weren't completely full, but every slot we had scheduled ran. On Saturday and Sunday, every slot was full, and because of limited space, we were turning away maybe two tables worth of people per time slot. We ran a couple of unscheduled extra tables in the halls outside the room and still ended up turning people away in the afternoon and evening slots. The Monday morning slot wasn't overfull, but we had all our scheduled tables running. Can't remember if that was only 4 or all 5 though.

This is not including the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game demo that we also ran on the weekend.

A little far into the future but I should be able to attend (and GM if desired) from Friday night.
