Solomon's Castle and the UDT/SEAL Museum - overnight trip

  • Mar 22, 2014 · 7:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Day 1

• We will be meeting at the RaceTrac on 60 and Turkey Creek Rd at 9am with KSU at 9:15am.

• There will be a short ride over to Mulberry for breakfast at Carol's Café, which is a nice little local diner Jen and I have eaten at several times. Expect KSU from Carol's around 10:30am (https://plus.google.com/104552241014405674509/about?gl=us&hl=en)

• From Carol's, we will take SR60 all the way over to the east coast and the Navy SEAL Museum (http://goo.gl/maps/PYgWo), stopping at the Pilot Travel Center in Yeehaw Junction for a quick pit/gas stop.

• Just before we get to the SEAL Museum, we will pass a small sandwich shop called Sharky's (http://us.justdial.com/FL/FORT_PIERCE/Sharkys_Inc/near_State_Highway_A1A,Flotilla_Ter/0112991687/map)

. The plan will be to get a sandwich for the folks who want to eat before hitting the museum for a couple hours.

• Navy SEAL Museum for 2 hours (https://navysealmuseum.com/visit/). KSU to hotel will be around 4pm for a nice ride along the beach to the hotel (
http://www.qualityinn.com/hotel-stuart-florida-FLB69?source=gglocalai1#rsm-rate-RACK )to check in and freshen up.

• We can agree on a time, but there is a Tiki Bar close to the hotel that looks like fun: http://www.terrafermata.com/

Day 2

• Free hot breakfast at hotel & checkout. KSU at 8am.

• The route will take SR 70 over past Arcadia (with a stop for gas where 70 passes across 27) and then north on 661/665 over to Solomon Rd. in Ona, FL. The grounds are fun and there is plenty to look at. Lunch will be at the restaurant there - The Boat on the Moat, which is a replica Spanish Galleon. Solomon's Castle link: http://www.solomonscastle.org/default.htm

• We will depart and take 665 up to 62 and then up 39 back to the Shell Station at SR 60 where we can gas up and split up for home.

And I thought my weekend of trying to remove the drain plug at the bottom of my pool was an adventure. Apparently, my challenges were minor in comparison.

OMG. What a story. Sounds like the family vacation movie with Chevy Chase. Glad you all made it home safely! We shall live to ride again!

Hey- just noticed something... Not sure if you guys are into airshows, but this is the same week as MacDill's Airfest. Also, just to throw it up there, the Grand Prix of St. Pete (Indy) takes place the weekend after that.

Really like the idea. Kinda hard to commit right now, but it does look like a "go" for me. It's on my calendar.
