Riders, the Veterans Charity “Home for our Troops” has completed another uniquely designed and adapted home for a wounded veteran, LCpl Brandon Long. The home is located in St. Augustine, so this will be an overnighter. We have done many of these motorcycle escorts and Key Ceremonies before and they always choke me up and make me proud to be an American and a Biker. We invite you to ride with us to St. Augustine, stay overnight, and participate in the escort and ceremonies for LCpl Long.
Plan is to depart the Tampa area around 2:00 p.m. and take a route over to St. Augustine to make it there before dark. We will take Hwy 301 north to Hwy 50, go east on Hwy 50 to Hwy 19. Then Hwy 19 north to Hwy 40, Hwy 40 further east to Hwy 11. Continue on Hwy 11 to Hwy 1 (ole Dixie HWY) to St. Augustine. We plan on arriving at the KOA around 6:00 p.m., where we will check in and ride over to Harry’s restaurant for dinner. We are booked at the St. Augustine KOA, we have a one room cabin with electricity and A/C; rate is $58 per night. I encourage an early booking for this campsite! Hotel reservations will be high due to a highly popular 5K Run happening that Saturday.
On Saturday, July 26th, we will go to breakfast and depart for the escort no later than 9:30 a.m. We will ride to the escort meet up point (escort is managed by the Patriot Guard, still waiting on them to decide on the starting location). We will meet LCpl Long at 10:00 am and depart at 10:30 a.m. to provide the motorcycle escort for him. Once at his new home location, we will participate in the Key Ceremony, after the Ceremony we will tour the new home and have refreshments & beverages, and help with breakdown of the tent, tables and chairs. We will plan on departing that location at around 1:00 p.m., where the rest of the day is free for us to explore and enjoy St. Augustine. At 6:00 p.m., we plan on heading over to the Raintree Restaurant for dinner, and then sign up for a Ghost tour.
Sunday, we will have breakfast and then depart the KOA around 10:30 a.m., and head southwest to Green Cove Springs to the Military Museum of North Florida (1 Bunker Ave. & State Rd. 16 East, Green Cove Springs) / http://www.militarymuseumofnorthflorida.com/. Once we see the museum, we will head south on HWY 17 to HWY 20 to Palatka. From there we will take HWY 19 south to HWY 314 (Salt Springs HWY) and follow it HWY 35 (Baseline Rd). We will follow HWY 35 south to Belleview where will connect to HWY 301; and follow HWY 301 south to Tampa. Plan is to be in Tampa around 4:00 p.m.
