SATURDAY AUGUST 10th GROUP BIKE RIDE - Join the Paulinskill Valley Trail Committee (PVTC) at 11:30AM on Saturday, August 10th at Warbasse Junction, at the border of Sparta and Lafayette, New Jersey. The PVTC, the Officially Recognized Friends Group of the Kittatinny Valley State Park (KVSP), will host a moderate bike ride. The length of the ride will be 17 miles, (round trip), unless a majority of the group chooses to ride less or more. The trail is cinder-based which provides easy, level biking. Bring your helmet, plus lunch and a drink.
RSVP by August 9th to the Meetup announcement or to [masked] or call (973)[masked] (land-line, so no texting). If no one RSVPs, then the ride may be cancelled.
This bike group pedals at a very moderate pace. Everyone should be prepared to stay together with the group leader. If you wish to pedal faster or pedal alone, then you should explore this rail trail on your own time. IF YOU CHOOSE TO JOIN THIS GROUP EVENT, THEN YOU MUST STAY TOGETHER WITH THE GROUP AND ITS LEADER.
The Paulinskill Valley Trail Committee is the Officially Recognized Friends Group of the Kittatinny Valley State Park. They are a not-for-profit 501c(3) organization of volunteers dedicated to promoting the public interest, appreciation and conservation of the resources of Kittatinny Valley State Park with emphasis on its rail trails.
The Paulinskill Valley Trail (27 miles) and the Sussex Branch Trail (20 miles) are part of Kittatinny Valley State Park. Both trails are multi-use. However, no motorized vehicles are allowed. Hiking, bicycle riding, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing jogging and dog sledding are allowed. All dogs must be on a leash. The tracks have been removed from these rail trails, leaving a pleasant cinder bed path. Except at a few road crossings, the trails are level and offer easy walking, cycling, and horseback riding. Anyone interested in nature or railroad history will enjoy using these two rail trails.
The PVTC publishes "The Signal" newsletter two times a year. “The Signal” contains interesting historical stories about various parts of the Paulinskill Valley Trail and Sussex Branch Trail.
The annual membership contribution is $15 for an individual and $25 for a family. Larger contributions are welcome to help carry out our programs. Please make checks payable to “Paulinskill Valley Trail Committee” or “PVTC” and mail to PVTC, PO Box 175, Andover, NJ 07821.
DESCRIPTION OF BIKE RIDE LEADER
Paul Rottmann has been leading the PVTC bike rides (in warm months) for 12 years. He has also biked more than 10 other NJ trails. These trails were all once active railroads, so they are level for easy pedaling, despite the scenic hilly terrain surrounding them.
